A true Andean rarity right before sunset! 🦉🌿

The Wattled Guan (Aburria aburri) is easily one of the rarest and most elusive birds to encounter along the Colombian Andes. Because of their secretive nature, spotting one takes a lot of patience—and a deep understanding of their territory.

Spotting it for the first time was unforgettable, but guiding my clients to see it during our 12-day tour through the Central and Western Andes was even better!

Pure field photography is all about moments like this. 🎯🌿

The Golden-fronted Redstart (Myioborus ornatus) is perhaps one of the most common warblers we encounter along the high-elevation trails of the Colombian Andes. However, getting a clean, razor-sharp shot of this hyperactive bird is a real challenge!

Because this species doesn't visit feeders, you can't just sit back and wait. If you want a great photograph, you have to show off your field skills, react quickly, and track their constant movement through the foliage.

During a recent tour in Salento, our patience and persistence paid off. This little buddy paused for just a moment and perched right in front of us, giving our group an unbelievable close-up view!

Some moments in the field stay with you forever. 🌿✨

Sharing the trail with wonderful birders who have traveled from afar is always special, but moments like this make it truly unforgettable.

The Chestnut-breasted Chlorophonia (Chlorophonia pyrrhophrys) is a species I always look for with great enthusiasm when leading tours in the Cocora Valley. For years, they seemed to evade my camera—always flying off before I could get a clean shot!

A couple of weeks ago, our luck completely changed. We discovered the active nesting site of a pair and quietly observed them for at least 15 minutes. We watched in awe as the male and female worked together seamlessly, gathering moss to craft their intricate nest.

Moments like this prove that patience and good company always pay off in the cloud forest.

Spotting mountain birds is easily one of my favorite parts of guiding 🏔️

Their small size and energetic hopping behavior make them both a fun challenge and a true thrill for photography.

This Capped Conebill (Conirostrum albifrons) has been high on my personal photo target list for a couple of years now. Today, I finally got a clear shot that I’m incredibly excited to share with you!

I captured this iconic mountain species while leading a recent tour to La Carbonera, Salento. We encountered a hyperactive mixed-species flock foraging through the high-elevation canopy, giving our group an unforgettable show.

The Blue-whiskered Tanager (Tangara johannae) is one of those legendary targets that every serious birder dreams of adding to their lifelist. As a highly restricted species, it can only be found inhabiting the dense, humid slopes of the megadiverse Biogeographic Chocó region.

Currently cataloged as Near Threatened, documenting this bird is always an incredibly significant and rewarding record for us.

We were fortunate enough to capture these sharp shots during our latest tour to the spectacular San Cipriano Nature Reserve, where the crystal-clear rivers match the vibrant diversity of the canopy.
