Acorn Woodpeckers are like nature's comedians. Seriously, their antics crack me up.

Picture this: a little bird with a clown face.

If you are a fan of quails, you will love our birdwatching tours in Colombia. Visiting is a must. Is the only place in Colombia that have a Crested bobwhite (Colinus cristatus) feeding station. This small and charming bird that inhabits dry habitats in interior valleys and on the Pacific slope. The crested bobwhite is easily recognized by its long feathers on the forehead and crown, which can be white or dark, and its marbled black and white neck. The upper parts are mottled black, brown and gray, and the underparts are pale with dark markings. The crested bobwhite feeds on seeds, shoots, leaves and insects, and often forms small groups on the ground. The male has a loud whistled bob-WHITE! call that can be heard from far away. The crested bobwhite is not threatened by extinction, but it is always a thrill to see one in its natural environment with great photographic oportunities. This hermit has a long, curved bill, a green back, a rufous rump and a grayish-brown throat with faint dark streaks. It feeds on nectar from flowers and insects. The male has a high-pitched, squeaky song that can be heard from far away. The stripe-throated hermit is fairly common and not threatened by extinction, but it is always a delight to spot one in its natural habitat. Queremos agradecerles a todos los Vakers que nos Ayudaron a hacer el sueño de estos jovenes pajareros realidad.Con el aporte que hicieron logramos conseguir los equipos para que este semillero de observadores de aves puedanseguir con su proceso de formación. A pesar de que nuestra meta era de COP$ 9.000.000, y solo logramos reunir COP$ 2.819.171 (el 31%) logramos hacer buen uso de sus aportes y logramos conseguir 10 binoculares y 1 telescopio con su trípode, de marca genérica, pero aptos para la observación de aves. Por supuesto queríamos entregarles a los muchachos equipos de más calidad y durabilidad, sin embargo logramos conseguir equipos con una calidad bastante decente para empezar el proceso. Yo mismo, JulioDelgado, supervisé la calidad de los equipos y son lo suficientemente buenos para que el semillero pueda empezara formar a estos muchachos y muchachas.

We want to thank all the Crowd funders who helped us make the dream of these young birders come true. With your contribution, we managed to get the equipment so that this birdwatchers nursery may continue their training process. Despite the fact that our goal was COP$9,000,000 / USD$ 2.715, and we only raised COP$ 2,819,171 / USD$ 682 (31%), we managed to make good use of your contributions and to get 10 binoculars and 1 spotting scope with its tripod, of generic brands, but suitable for bird watching.Of course we wanted to provide the boys & girls with more quality and durable equipment, however, we managed to get fairly decent quality equipment to start the process. I supervised the quality of the equipment and they are good enough for El Garcero reserve to continue training these boys and girls. They have already started using the new equipment, they have already made a couple of birding parties, and they are very grateful with your donations. On behalf of the El Garcero Reserve, Neotrópicos Foundation and myself, I want to thank you for your time, energy and your contribution to this beautiful campaign.

If you're looking to observe the Tourmaline Sunangel (Heliangelus exortis), head to Colombia where these hummingbirds are found. They prefer dense, mossy cloud or elfin forests but can also be seen in other habitats such as forest clearings and edges. To identify them, look for the male's bright purple throat patch and blue-green forecrown or the female's white throat.
It is aggressively territorial at feeding locations. It takes nectar from a variety of flowering plants, usually clings to flowers to feed rather than hovering at them. It captures insects by hawking from a perch and by gleaning from vegetation.
