Costa Rica through your lens — this is where it happens.

Cloud forests, tropical wetlands, rainforest, and highland ecosystems — each one a new photographic world waiting to be captured.

Hummingbirds, Resplendent Quetzal, toucans, macaws, — all in their natural environment, all on their terms.

Led by professional wildlife photographer Gustavo Orozco, every moment of this tour is designed to give you real opportunities in the field.

This isn't just a trip. It's your portfolio's best chapter.

💛 Bill & Karen Boswell — thank you both for being part of this journey. Your passion and energy in the field made every single day special. Hope to see you back soon!

New on the Geo Natura Tours blog: “Best Time for Birding in Costa Rica — A Month-by-Month Guide for Serious Birders”

Costa Rica offers exceptional birdwatching year-round — but timing your visit correctly can make the difference between a good trip and an unforgettable one.

The best time depends on what you want to see, where you want to go, and whether your priority is birdwatching, photography, or both. In this guide, we break it all down month by month.

Here’s what you’ll find inside:
* A month-by-month breakdown of birding conditions
* How the dry and green seasons affect bird activity
* Timing tips specifically for bird photographers

We recently completed a beautiful journey across Costa Rica, exploring a wide range of ecosystems—from lush gardens and volcanic landscapes to wetlands, rainforests, and cloud forests.

Along the way, we enjoyed incredible birdlife, from toucans, tanagers, hummingbirds, and kingfishers in the lowlands, to unforgettable moments in the highlands surrounded by cloud forest species.

It was a trip full of great birding, meaningful experiences, and a true connection with nature.

A special thank you to Mark Romer and Bonnie Soutar for joining us on this experience—it was a pleasure sharing the field with you.

This is something I see all the time. You take the photo in the moment and it feels right, but later it just doesn’t look the way you expected.

Most of the time, it’s not the camera. It’s that we move too fast and don’t take a second to really understand what’s happening.

I wrote a short article with a few simple bird photography tips that can make a real difference in the field.

It’s not luck. It’s training.

Birdwatching changes the way your brain works.

You begin to:
‱ detect movement faster
‱ recognize patterns instantly
‱ notice what others miss

That’s when birding becomes something deeper.

We just published a new article about this.

Birding is more than a trip.
It’s a shared journey through wild places.

Over the past two weeks we explored some of Costa Rica’s most spectacular birding habitats together — from lush Caribbean rainforests to misty highland cloud forests and the vibrant Pacific lowlands.

We searched for hummingbirds at feeders, scanned wetlands for rare species, walked the legendary trails of La Selva, and climbed into the highlands of Cerro de la Muerte hoping to encounter the magnificent Resplendent Quetzal.

But beyond the birds, what truly made this expedition special was the people who shared it.

A big thank you to our fantastic group:

Piotr Izworski & Justyna Izworska
Joanna KoƄczak & BoĆŒena Peisert
Roman Stelmach & Zenon Marciniak
MichaƂ Pieczka & Artur Sikorski

Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and love for nature made this journey unforgettable.

Thank you for traveling with Geo Natura Tours.
We hope to see you again in the field.

Most birders focus on species.
Few focus on structure.
But structure shapes everything.

How long you observe.
How close you listen.
How much your guide can actually explain.

The difference between a crowded checklist and a meaningful encounter is rarely visible in a brochure.
It’s in the design.

What makes a birding tour truly exceptional?

A strong species list is important.

But depth of experience is what makes it unforgettable.

‱ Habitat access
‱ Expert interpretation
‱ Small group positioning
‱ Thoughtful pacing

Which of these matters most to you?

Wildlife photography in the Neotropics requires more than technical skill.

It demands patience.
Understanding of light.
Knowledge of habitat.
And ethical field practice.

Costa Rica holds over 900 bird species.
Colombia leads the world with nearly 2,000.

But capturing meaningful images in these ecosystems means working with nature — not against it.

In our latest blog article, we explore practical techniques for photographing wildlife in cloud forests and Andean habitats, including natural light strategy, movement capture, and responsible multiflash use.

If you are passionate about birdwatching, nature photography tours, and conservation-focused travel, this article is for you.
