This morning, right outside the famous school of Bolsón; Santa Cruz Guanacaste. We spotted a stunning pair of Scarlet Macaws enjoying some fresh tropical almonds (Terminalia catappa)

Moments like this may seem effortless, but they’re the reason I always say: the early bird gets the worm… or, if you’re a Scarlet Macaw, the almonds!

Everyone knows the early bird gets the worm…
especially in Costa Rica, where the heat rises fast and wildlife never waits for us.

Just after sunrise, we explored the quiet streets of Bolsón and spotted a stunning scarlet macaw perched high in a Brazilian Fire Tree — Schizolobium parahyba.

Then we headed to the Tempisque River, jumped into a motorboat, and began scouting for crocodiles and monkeys along the riverbanks.

Needless to say… the adventure did not disappoint.

A huge thank you to Judy, Angel, Ted, and Scott for waking up before dawn — even while on vacation.
