Costa Rica s nature is stunning but also overwhelming and dangerous. I know we, Europeans , often prefer to go on our own, without a guide but… Costa Rica is just a soo different place than say, Belgium, and even though traveling by yourself, it is worth while and recommended taking a guide here and there and having a 7/7 back up . The mountains, jungle and beaches are stunning but also wild, in a way we have not known before 😉.

For our bird lovers ❤️:

Costa Rica counted nine active jabiru nests, 19 chicks and at least 148 birds in 2026, offering hope for the endangered wetland species.

Onvoorspelbaar en bijzonder jaar kwa weer in Costa Rica. Opnieuw: er is niet 1 weersvoorspelling voor het hele land. Er zijn microklimaten door de bergen, vulkanen, twee verschillende kusten…verschillende vegetatie..verwacht tijdens een rondreis regen, zon, warmte en iets frisser hoe hoger u de bergen in gaat maar nooit zo koud als in België 😉.

Vanaf 27 juli zou er een droge periode aankomen in een groot deel van het land … af te wachten of dat werkelijk zo zal zijn 😉.

This small 3 toad sloth with its Pura Vida smile fell out a tree today, right next to the dog rescue. No mother around. My friend put it back in the tree so he would be safe from dogs and other wildlife and so he can climb further up the tree when rested.

So wildlife spotting with Biatriz today… went all weird:
Firstof all: we have a cat house. For feeding my cats ( they can come and go when they want by a tiny hole but it’s because otherwise the birds eat all their food. They also have a special plate with water around to keep the ants from getting in the food.
Anyways, today the cats ran away from the house screaming and Biatriz was barking at something on the top shelf. I thought it may be a snake because of the smell and fact my cats sometimes bring home snakes 🤷🏻‍♀️😓. So I asked the neighbor to come with his long pool stick/net… turned out was a huge p**p from a raccoon or so 😂😂😂😃… the one who made the very smelly p**p unfortunately already fled the scene so we only have p**p spotting today 🤷🏻‍♀️😅
