Few places on Earth feel like this. Golfo Dulce, on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, right along the Osa Peninsula, is one of the only tropical fjords in the world — deep, enclosed, and shaped by tectonic forces rather than ice.
Here, the rainforest doesn’t sit beside the ocean. It drops straight into it. The same forest that covers Corcovado continues along this coastline, creating one of the most biologically intense regions on the planet.
That’s what makes this place different. You’re not moving between ecosystems — you’re inside all of them at once.
Spending time out here changes how you see it. You start to notice the small things, the patterns, the way everything is connected through movement and presence rather than distance. No two moments repeat themselves.
These images come from that time on the water, navigating without a fixed plan, just following what the gulf reveals along the way.
Most of this coastline remains unreachable by land. No roads, no viewpoints, no easy access. The only real way to experience it is from the water, moving through it as it unfolds.

When I first discovered the photos from , I was completely blown away. As artists, you immediately recognize someone who sees the world in a unique way — the light, the patience, the emotion in every shot. I followed him that day and kept reacting to his stories, always curious about what he would capture next.

So when he later reached out about collaborating here in Golfo Dulce, I felt deeply honored. But honestly, the real magic came from being able to share our home. Golfo Dulce is our everyday life — it’s what we know, live, and protect — and seeing it through his lens reminded us of how extraordinary it really is.
Exploring together, showing him the corners of this tropical fjord, watching him observe, wait, and frame each moment… it was inspiring. These images are a collaboration, but they also show a bit of what makes Rio Leon Tours so special: the place, the time, and love we put into every exploration. 🌿📷

These are some shots that came out of that encounter 🐒🪸🦪

Some places still feel untouched.
The rainforest runs straight into the sea.
Dolphins pass through calm mornings.
Whales come to give birth.
Sometimes even a whale shark moves quietly below.
Macaws overhead.
Coral gardens under the surface.
Miles of coastline where the jungle still reaches the water.
And the surprising part…
All of this exists in the same place.
Golfo Dulce.
Wild. Quiet. Rare. 🌿🐋

Infinitely grateful to Golfo Dulce for allowing us to witness something this sacred.
A whale shark crossing the gulf shifts the energy of everything around it.
Engines down. Breath held.
A living galaxy drifting through green light —
constellations of fish tracing its body.
We slow. We soften. We give space.
And then it turns. Closer. By choice.
And in the final seconds — two immense presences moving through the same water.
Some encounters feel ancient.
All we can offer in return is respect — and gratitude.

Not open ocean,

A tropical fjord where whale sharks pass,

You didn't expect to see a whale shark in a tropical fjord?
Neither did we - first time...
Golfo Dulce keeps rewriting what's possible
Above the surface.
Below it.
Inside the forest.

This is not open ocean
This is something rarer.
