Sendero Las Pailas (Boiling mud pots trail) – 3.5 kilometers loop
This trail is very easy. The path is half a desert forest and half a rain forest. The trail can be done in 2 hours but I recommend to count 3h if you like to take pictures and observe the fauna. Bring 2 liters of water per person. There are 3 hikes . The first one is 2 km loop Starts off in Las Pailas Trail . This is a paved path that leads through the shady forest. It crosses a river via a sturdy bridge and brings you to lookout where you can view volcanic features: ( boiling pots , water heat pots and a little hole that is called “ little volcano “. The first half of the trail is under the cool forest with a nice breeze and fresh air This part of the trail is perfect for those with limited mobility as it is well maintained and fairly easy. Each volcanic feature is sectioned off with short fences so you can’t get too close. But even from a safe distance, they are impressive. At all the stops, you’ll observe an array of colors and smells caused by the chemical reactions taking place.
About halfway through the loop is the seasonal waterfall. They aren’t joking when they named this waterfall, as you will see barely tickles . The rest of the trail is to see the forest and leads to the end of the tour right where you started .
You can visit hornillas volcano 🌋
The Miravalles volcano is an inactive volcano located in the north-west of Costa Rica. But, there is one place near the volcano that still shows volcanic activity! At 'Las Hornillas' (translated: the small ovens), you can admire a true volcanic landscape. Smoke, colorful rock formations and bubbling volcanic mud: it's all included! The heat from magma that has risen close to the surface has resulted in hot springs whose mineral water is a draw for spa enthusiasts.
Walkable live crater at the volcano slopes of Miravallas here you can observe hot water springs, bubbling mud holes, fumaroles and steam boilers .This is the only place in Costa Rica where you can take a walk inside the crater, watch and feel steam coming out from the boiling mud. Prove the therapeutic properties of the famous mineral clay .The horseback ride and the tractor tour leave from the Volcanic Activity Center and starts moving into the Volcano's Miravatles private reserve.
You can do rafting in Tenorio rapids
You can hike rio Celeste’s and visit a sloth 🦥 preserve .
Finally you can enjoy a blue pool in Kiwanda Maji
DAY 4: CHILL DAY
Playa Conchal has more things to see but you deserve to free time to relax. One week is not enough.
Have the good time .
