Our group of 4 adults, recently did the 3-in-1 tour with guide Francisco. Wow! What an incredible day!
Francisco picked us up at our resort in one of the lost luxurious, comfortable tour vans we have ever experienced. We started our day at Mistico Park and walked the trails and hanging bridges. Along the way, we viewed various wildlife, including a rare sighting of an anteater, through his top of the line Swarovski telescope. The photos we got through the telescope were top notch! From there we visited La Fortuna waterfalls for a dip. Then it was off to the company’s Rancho where we were served a delicious traditional casido lunch while enjoying the view of the river and birds that would come to the feeder. After lunch we did a short hike up Arenal Volcano and learned about the geography of the region. Throughout the day, Francisco was friendly, professional and a fountain of information. Highly recommend this locally owned and operated tour company!

The Colossus of Costa Rica

The hike begins on the western side of the volcano, where the sun sets behind the massive cone. Your Rainforest Explorers guide will lead you through trails that transition from open areas with spectacular views to dense secondary forests.

Walking over the petrified lava flow from 1968 is a humbling experience. It gives you a sense of the immense power of nature. While the volcano is currently in a resting phase (no red lava visible), the steam vents and the perfect cone shape are awe-inspiring. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for coatis, monkeys, toucans, and the famous Oropendola birds nesting in the tall trees.

After exploring the heat and history of the Volcano, there’s nothing better than cooling off. Combine this hike with the La Fortuna Waterfall or the Safari Float for a day that covers the two essential elements of Arenal: Fire and Water.
