🦜For we want you to meet our new arrival, Mora the Great Green Macaw!

🌱Mora was found on the ground in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, Costa Rica. She is very young and still growing new feathers. Curiously, she doesn’t yet have a full tail even though she should.

🍃Because of this, we tested her for Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD), a viral disease affecting parrots that causes progressive feather necrosis. Luckily, her results came back negative!

😢Another explanation for her condition might be that she was kept illegally as a pet. The small cages and poor diet can seriously delay and disrupt development.

🌳Since arriving at Toucan Rescue Ranch, Mora has been eating well and remaining very active. We are hopeful she will continue to grow out her feathers and be able to fly normally! She is socializing with Fresa and Kiwi when they’re a little older, they can be released together!

"We loved our stay here. The house is amazing with stunning views. Josue was great to meet us when we arrived and escorted us up the hill to the house. The drive was a bit scary the first time up, but it got very comfortable after the first time. The pool was very refreshing after the days spent at the beautiful beaches that were all very close. The host was great to provide great recommendations of places to do and things to see in the area. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you need. The outdoor bbq area was an added bonus. We spent lots of evenings enjoying our time there. Our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer. We’d love to back!
