Costa Rica is between 8 – 11 degrees north of the equator, which puts it in the climatic zone for tropical weather year-round.
Always remember the 4 “S”
Sunhat
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Sunshirt

The sun is much stronger there than in other parts of the world, and wearing a hat diligently while out in the sun will help to prevent sunburns, heatstroke, and dehydration. If you are very concerned about burning I highly recommend a lightweight sun shirt. There is only so much sunscreen can do until you need a layer of clothing between you and the sun.

We are in a tropical zone which means short rain showers are common. They usually last just a moment and are quite refreshing, but if you have a light raincoat like a windbreaker material you might want to toss it in your bag.

Did you know many countries will not let you in if you only have 6 months or less on your passport?

Passport and Banking 💵
Costa Rica is an international destination, so definitely make sure you have an active passport with at least 6 months remaining. Your credit card and debit card will work fine there but be sure you check with your banks about any foreign transaction fees. Costa Rica works on a cash economy so for many of your souvenirs or grabbing that perfect sundress at a local shop consider having some cash on hand. The local currency is the colón which is easily obtained using the ATMS in town or at the airport when you land.
