If your google “greatest birds in Costa Rica “
You’ll get also this one: the great curassow.
It is a large monogamous turkey bird in the tropics and unique as the female is actually more colorful than the male.
Have you seen them? This is the female.

“Have you met this one yet?”
Perro zompopo or helmeted iguana 🦎 this is very difficult to spot in the wild, as they are able to rapidly change color to blend in to their surroundings.
And it gets even more tricky: they are called iguanas and yet are in the category of Lizards.

Do you know the difference?
Corcovado is one of the best preserved rain forests on the earth 🌎 we have both here: primary and secondary forests.
Primary forest is a forest that’s never been cut.
Secondary has been cut and new species planted.
And guess where most of the animals like to live?

“Did you know….”
The king fisher is a small bird with disproportionately long bill.
The design of a kingfisher’s beak is aerodynamically efficient, allowing it to dive from its perch, towards its prey, with maximum speed and minimum splash. In fact, the beak design is so clever that the front of many Japanese bullet trains are modelled to mimic it.

“Did you know….”
Butterflies, including Blue Morphos, taste with their feet, not their mouths.
Blue Morpho butterflies are known for their vibrant blue wings, but their color isn’t from pigment, but rather from the way light refracts off tiny scales on their wings. These butterflies are also some of the largest in the world, with a wingspan reaching up to 8 inches.
There are 6 different species of Morpho butterflies, including the Blue Morpho, found in Costa Rica.

“The special encounter “
The tapirs are great example of animals getting used To people and sharing space with humans.
The national park Corcovado is 424 square kilometres (164 sq mi) and most of this area is untouched and not available for visitors… and yet the wildlife likes to hangout close to the trails when humans cross.
They seem to be comfortable this way!

“Itsy bitsy spider 🕷️ “
Did you know:
Golden orb spider webs are remarkably strong, boasting a tensile strength that exceeds that of steel. Their silk, produced by the Nephila genus of spiders, is known for its high strength-to-weight ratio and can even stop a small bird mid-flight. Some even theorize that a pencil-thick thread of this silk could stop a jet airplane.

“Mexican Tamandua aka ant eater
The anteater, or “Oso Hormiguero”, is a fascinating creature often spotted in Costa Rica.
Despite their bear-like appearance in miniature form, these animals are gentle and mostly solitary, except during mating season. Their most striking feature is their long, tubular snout, which they use to sniff out ants and termites—their primary diet. Equipped with powerful claws, anteaters can be surprisingly formidable when defending themselves against predators.

PURA VIDA

UNFORGETTABLE NATURE EXPERIENCES We are privileged to call this place home. Osa Peninsula is amazing and unique place on Earth; place where the Pacific Ocean meets the Jungle. Its Magic. * After living half of a decade in Europe Rodolfo had calling to return home, the place where he grew up: to the Osa Peninsula. Traveling around had given a new perspective and made him realize how precious this place is. Not only National Geography state Corcovado is one of the best perceived rain-forests in the planet it is also the most bio-diverse place on Earth. Rodolfo understood the uniqueness of this place and wanted to share his neighborhood. Rodolfo wanted to help the tourists who arrived in Osa to see this magical place, just as he had been helped during his travel years.

This is how Corcovado Hiking Tours was born: from passion to nature and wildlife and from whole hearted intention to share the magic and help tourist to get the best possible experience. Over the years, with hard work, Rodolfo build his business and reputation as a fun, responsible, easy going and professional nature guide. Annually we take hundreds of people to the Corcovado national park and other nature adventures.

After years of managing his business successfully on his own, Rodolfo finally decided to give piece of his heart and passion and shared the story of Corcovado Hiking Tours with Inka, now his wife. For many years, Inka traveled from Finland to the Osa Peninsula and always wondered why, until she met with Rodolfo and the rest is History.

Together they help travelers who come to Osa Peninsula to enjoy the magnificent nature and to have an unforgettable nature experience, making memories for life time. and as we say around enjoy life the fullest in each moment - Pura vida.
