Overlooking the Golfo Dulce in Costa Rica’s Southern Zone, Osa Dulce Vida is located within the Biological Corridor of the Golfo Dulce Forest Reserve. This region boasts over 2.5% of the world’s plant and animal species, making our neighborhood one of the most biodiverse centers of nature on the entire planet.
Osa Dulce Vida has a main home that can sleep up to five comfortably—eight in a pinch—and a guest apartment that is ideal for a couple, or a single digital nomad, but can sleep up to three. With separate entrances, we welcome you to consider one or the other individually, or the entire complex for larger groups. Count on weekly and monthly discounts, but we do have a minimum occupancy period of three days. For the two holiday weeks in December and the Easter holiday week, there is a seven-day minimum stay.
The main home enjoys an incomparable view over primary and secondary rain forest and the Golfo Dulce, the tenth deepest gulf in the world, Jacques Cousteau’s fabled “tropical fjord.” With both the northern Pacific and Southern Pacific populations of the humpback whale migrating in their respective winters to the Golfo Dulce’s warm water for calving and early calve rearing, it is prime habitat for viewing humpbacks and other cetaceans. There is an annual migration of whale sharks that school in the gulf in March and April. Whale sharks are solitary creatures that school only occasionally in isolated parts of the planet. One of those is located a few hundred meters form our front door. The six acres comprising Osa Dulce Vida grounds are overrun with monkeys, anteaters, tayra, five species of felines, kinkajous, coatis, opossums, red-sprocket deer, two species of peccaries, and many of the 715 bird species native to the Osa Peninsula in general, including the standout scarlet macaw and the chestnut-mandibled toucan, along with a variety of mot-mots, toucanets, trogons, frigatebird, and a profusion of songbirds and raptors.
We are located at the very head of the Golfo Dulce, and by dint of its geographic protection from the open Pacific, there are no waves on the beach in front of Osa Dulce Vida, merely gentle ripples along the small beaches at the base of the plunging mountain slopes. The trail down to the beach covers 400 meters in distance and 100 meters in elevation. It’s a bit of a hike and a full-on adventure. We can arrange for pickups at the shoreline for sport fishing, water tours, and even transport to and from Puerto Jimenez, Golfito, and other points inside the gulf.
