A strangler fig beside the trail caught my attention.

Its massive aerial roots seemed worth a closer look—and hidden among them was a Mexican hairy porcupine.

Another reminder that some of the forest’s most elusive creatures depend on the giants that quietly stand beside our paths.

A privilege to witness.

Two ancient worlds briefly converge.

An American crocodile—heir to a lineage that outlived the dinosaurs—rests along the shore as a Baird’s tapir, the Osa Peninsula’s largest native land mammal and a survivor of one of the oldest mammalian lineages, steps from the forest.

Separate histories. Different paths.

For a fleeting moment, they share the rainforest’s edge, revealing a landscape that is more than a collection of species. It is a living tapestry shaped by millions of years of evolution.

Moments like this are why I never stop looking.

A privilege to witness.

One of the smallest and most elusive kingfishers in the world—
the American Pygmy Kingfisher.

A tiny jewel of the rainforest, quietly moving along forest streams and hidden waterways, often unnoticed among the shadows.

Moments like this remind me that some of the greatest treasures in the forest are also the easiest to miss.

Small, secretive, and truly special to encounter.

A privilege to witness.

This time, I found myself quietly observing a family of coatis moving through the forest.

At remarkably close range, they carried on almost undisturbed—foraging with focus, turning leaves and searching the forest floor with surprising success, even finding crabs along the way.

Moments like this offer something special:a glimpse into the everyday lives of wild animals, unfolding naturally and without interruption.

To simply observe, without altering the moment—that is always a privilege.

An unexpected encounter off the coast of the Osa Peninsula—
a group of killer whales moving through tropical waters.

Orcas are apex predators, rarely seen in places like this.
Even guides with years in the field may never witness a moment like it.

For me, this was more than just a sighting—
it was a reminder of how wild and unpredictable this place truly is.

Grateful to call this home.
A privilege to witness.

Some things in the rainforest aren’t meant to be explained.
Only experienced.

I stopped for a moment in front of this giant—
just to witness its presence.

CEIBA PENTANDRA
This tree is more than just wood and roots.
It’s a sacred presence, a bridge between worlds, surrounded by stories and respect.
a giant of the tropical forest, some tree rising over 60 meters into the canopy.

It also plays a key role in the life of one of the most powerful birds on Earth—the Harpy Eagle,
which depends on giants like this to survive.

For me, this tree represents everything I admire about the forest—
strength, history, and connection.

Evening settles along the shores of the Osa Peninsula—
a moment of calm where the forest meets the sea.

As the day ends for us, it quietly begins for others.
A tapir emerges with its young, accompanied by a caracara removing parasites—
a small but essential interaction in the balance of the wild.

The calf, still cautious, resists the bird’s attempt—
a brief and honest glimpse into life unfolding in real time.

Moments like this remind us that even in stillness, the forest is alive.

Raw nature. Real behavior. A privilege to witness.

A fleeting and rarely witnessed moment in the rainforest canopy—
a pair of hawks during copulation, a brief but essential behavior in the perpetuation of the species.

Encounters like this last only seconds and often go unnoticed, even by those who spend years in the forest.

Capturing moments like this is a rare privilege—
a glimpse into the raw and unscripted reality of wildlife.

Raw nature. Real behavior. A privilege to witness.
