Tamarindo isn’t just Costa Rica’s most famous surf town. It’s the gateway to all of Guanacaste.🏄🏽

Mornings start with surf at the main beach and estuary boat tours through mangroves full of monkeys and crocodiles. Afternoons open up the rest of the region. Sloth-spotting in the dry forest, horseback rides through open trails, and rappelling down hidden river canyons.🧗🏼‍♀️

Mornings start with surf at Playa Guiones and yoga in the jungle. Afternoons drift into mangrove paddles, zipline runs over the dry forest, or sea turtle sightings up the coast at Ostional.🐢

Most couples plan their Costa Rica trip backwards.
After guiding hundreds of travelers through Costa Rica, we see the same three mistakes again and again.

🐚Starting with the beach. Manuel Antonio is the dessert, not the appetizer. Going there first makes the volcano and cloud forest feel like a step down. Save the coast for the end and the trip builds instead of fades.

🚗Underestimating drive times. Costa Rica looks small on a map, but the road from Monteverde to Arenal isn’t a straight line… it’s mountains, gravel, and views that deserve their own stop. Two destinations per week is the sweet spot.

⛵️Booking tours one by one without thinking about logistics. Each activity looks great on its own, but couples end up with a 6am zip-line in Arenal followed by a 4-hour drive and a sunset catamaran the same day. The magic of Costa Rica is in the pauses, a slow breakfast on the deck, an unplanned stop at a soda on the road, an hour in the hot springs with no agenda. Build the trip around two anchor experiences per destination, not five.

The Pura Vida pace isn’t slow because Ticos are lazy. It’s slow because the country rewards travelers who let it unfold.
