Andrew and Melanie joined us today for a Half-Day Whale Watching & Fishing Combo! 🐬🎣

We headed offshore looking for whales and found a couple of dolphin pods along the way, but unfortunately, the whales didn’t make an appearance today.

We came across a beautiful current line loaded with debris and flying fish, it looked absolutely perfect for mahi, but despite working it hard, nobody was home.

So we changed plans and headed inshore to try our luck with one of Costa Rica’s most iconic game fish, and got our roosterfish! 🐓🔥

To finish the trip, we cruised along the Manuel Antonio coastline, showing Andrew and Melanie some of the beautiful beaches and scenery that make this area so special.

No whales and no mahi today, but that’s fishing! A great morning on the water with dolphins, a roosterfish, and some incredible views of Manuel Antonio. 🌴🌊

Huge tripletail on the fly! 🎣🔥

Coming from a freshwater fly-fishing background, Sean landed his personal best fish on the fly rod with this beautiful tripletail!

It had been a slow day, but everything changed when we found a current line with some trees and floating debris. We spotted several tripletail hanging around the logs, but getting them to eat was another story.

After several shots, this one finally committed, and gave Sean an incredible fight on the fly rod!

Sometimes all it takes is one fish to completely change the day. What a way to set a new personal best! 🤙

Excellent half-day offshore with Pete and his family! 🎣🔥

The day started a little slow as we trolled for billfish. After about an hour without raising anything, we grabbed the binoculars and went looking.

Four miles later, it was game on!

On our very first pass, we hooked a triple on yellowfin tuna and the action didn’t stop there. One of the highlights of the day was getting Armando involved in a couple of different ways, first, he casted to a tuna and hooked up, and then we showed him how to feed a live bait and hook another one!

From a slow start to nonstop tuna action, we couldn’t have asked for a better half-day on the water with an awesome family.

Excellent tuna bite! 🔥🐟
Our friends Eddie and Renee joined us for their second trip with Fly Legend, this time bringing their daughter Mary and her boyfriend Conor. What an incredible day on the water! We landed 5 yellowfin tuna, two on live blue runners and three on surface lures cast by Eddie. Watching those fish explode on topwater never gets old! Thanks again for another unforgettable day, and we can’t wait to have you all back aboard. 🎣💪

Maiden tuna trip aboard the new Rambo 27! 🔥🐟

What a day with our repeat customers Arleigh and Daniel—this was their 6th trip with Fly Legend Fishing and, as always, the mission was tuna.

After catching a few smaller yellowfin early, we made a long run offshore and found big fish exploding on bait around dolphins and birds. We lost a couple of absolute giants before finally getting redemption on the last cast of the day. Arleigh battled a powerful yellowfin for over 30 minutes on a Shimano Saragosa 14000, and it was worth every second!

The new Rambo 27 proved she’s a true fishing machine, 50 miles offshore, cruising at 28 knots all day, incredible fuel range, and the new radar made finding the birds easier than ever.

Thanks again, Arleigh and Daniel, for making your 6th trip one to remember. We can’t wait for #7! 🎣

Six years ago! This little guy changed my life without even knowing it.

Kai was only 6 years old, but his passion for fishing sparked something in me. Watching him fall in love with the ocean inspired me to chase a dream that has completely changed our lives.

Fast forward six years, and here we are, our fourth boat is finally in the water.

The new Rambo 27 is officially floating, and seeing her ready for adventures is a moment I’ll never forget. There were countless long days, late nights, setbacks, and sacrifices to get here, but every bit of it has been worth it.

None of this would have happened without a little boy who simply loved to fish.

Thank you, Kai, for being my biggest inspiration. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next.

Great day on the water with our new friend Jamie! Our goal was to get him on some fish with the fly rod, so we headed offshore in search of good conditions.

Early in the day we found a nice current line loaded with debris and even a few big logs floating offshore. That was great news, I knew it had all the ingredients for mahi-mahi and triple tail.

We ended up landing three beautiful triple tail on the fly, which is always a special accomplishment. After that, we started trolling the area hoping to find some mahi, but they were nowhere to be found. We pushed farther offshore into cleaner blue water and spent some time trolling for billfish, but they just weren’t cooperating today.

Fishing was definitely on the slow side, but days like this remind us that every trip is different. Catching three quality triple tail on fly gear made the day a success, and it was an awesome experience to share with Jamie.

We never stop searching, and that’s what makes every day on the water an adventure. 🎣

Our friends Lucas and Tatum joined us for a half-day offshore fishing trip. The day before, we had caught several mahi-mahi and raised a couple of sailfish, so we were excited knowing there was plenty of life in the area.

But fishing has a way of keeping you humble.

We arrived at the grounds and found no mahi. We switched our focus to sailfish, which was Lucas’s dream catch. For the next four hours, we trolled, searched, and worked hard to raise a fish—but nothing happened.

Our half-day trip was officially over, but we decided to stay out for just 30 more minutes. Thirty-two minutes later, we still hadn’t seen a sailfish.

At that point, I looked up to God and started talking to Him about perseverance. We had worked hard for this fish all day. My mate had already picked up most of our baits, and we only had one lure left in the water.

I turned to Zachary and said, “Give me two more minutes.”

As I was saying those words, a dark shadow appeared behind our Yo-Zuri Twitchbait.

“Zachary!!!” I screamed. “Ballyhoo in the water, now! Hurry!”

The sailfish followed that Yo-Zuri for nearly a minute before deciding to switch over to the ballyhoo. Then it spent another 30 seconds tracking the bait before finally committing.

The reel screamed, the fish lit up, and Lucas’s dream became reality.

Perseverance pays off.

Sometimes the reward comes when you’re ready to quit, when the gear is already being put away, and when nobody expects it anymore. Keep going. One more cast, one more minute, one more try—you never know when your sailfish is already swimming right behind the lure.

Awesome day on the water with our friends Xavier and Carlie! Our mission was to get some fish on the fly, and we made it happen.

The morning started off hot, catching a bunch of smaller mahi mahi on the fly. Later, we found a floating log holding some massive tripletail. Sight casting to this 18+ pound fish was incredible. He moved slowly and wasn’t very interested, but we had a couple slow follows where he came right up to the fly just to inspect it. We probably could’ve spent another 1.5 hours trying to convince him to eat, but he never fully committed.

After that, we pushed farther offshore looking for a sailfish. We raised several fish, but they would only come up, check out the teasers, and disappear.

Xavier’s dream was to catch a roosterfish. The inshore bite had been tough the last few days, and the waves were big, but we still had a few live baits left… and right at sunset, we finished the day with this beautiful roosterfish.

Incredible day overall — nonstop action, amazing weather, and beautiful conditions on the ocean.
