Witness the miracle of life! 🐢 Our top naturalist guide, Marco, captured this incredible video of baby turtles making their first journey to the sea in Punta Banco, Costa Rica. Nature is truly amazing!

Happy Monday! What a way to start the week with this stunning reminder of nature's power! This amazing arribada—when thousands of sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs—took place last December in Costa Rica. This is unusual, as arribadas are less common during that month. We're so thrilled some of our guests were able to experience this unforgettable event.

Happy Friday everyone! 🎉 Check out this incredible footage of a mother tapir and her adorable calf spotted by some of our lucky guests a few days ago! 🤩

Tapirs are truly fascinating creatures and play an important role in Costa Rica's ecosystems. Here are a few cool facts:

Ancient Lineage: Tapirs are considered "living fossils" because they've changed very little over millions of years. They're related to horses and rhinoceroses!
Keystone Species: As herbivores, they help disperse seeds through their droppings, contributing to forest regeneration.
Unique Snout: Their prehensile snout is incredibly versatile, used for grabbing leaves, fruits, and other vegetation.
Vulnerable Status: Sadly, tapir populations are threatened by habitat loss and hunting. Seeing them in the wild is a special privilege.

We hope you enjoy this heartwarming video! Let us know what you think in the comments! 👇

Last week, the Costa Rica Connection / Costa Rica Sun Tours team celebrated the annual Christmas activity in the remote Caño Negro region of northern Costa Rica. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we partnered with Tocu Tent Camp to participate in a tree-planting project. We planted native trees like the Mountain Almond (Dipteryx panamensis) and Cedro Dulce (Cedrela tonduzii), which are vital to Costa Rica's lowlands ecosystem. The Almond tree, in particular, provides crucial food and shelter for endangered species such as the Great Green Macaw. Each tree planted is estimated to offset approximately 25 kg of CO2 annually.

Happy Monday, bird lovers!

Millions of migratory birds are taking flight to Costa Rica right now (Oct-Nov)! See dazzling displays of falcons, hawks, swifts, swallows, wrens, and warblers. Don't miss the endangered Great Green Macaws, returning in Sep-Oct to feast on blossoming almond trees.

As the first tropical nation to successfully reverse deforestation, Costa Rica has become a beacon of hope for global environmental efforts. The country's transformation from a landscape marred by deforestation to one of thriving biodiversity showcases the power of sustainable practices. Its highly biodiverse tropical rainforests now cover close to 60% of the country.

Fall migration in Costa Rica
Costa Rica, a very narrow land bridge connecting North and South America, is a prime destination for birdwatching. Its unique geographical location is also key to experiencing millions of migratory birds each year on their way to the tropics in Central and South America. Nearly 3 million Turkey Vultures and more than 16 species of raptors such as Broad-winged Hawk, Swainson´s Hawk, and Mississippi Kite- are counted by experts every fall in Talamanca’s lowlands near Puerto Viejo de Limón. Even in some parks and small protected forest areas in San José, birders can spot a variety of migrant songbird species, such as warblers, flycatchers, swallows, thrushes, vireos, tanagers, and orioles. While rare species like the Cerulean Warbler might be very challenging to find, more common warblers such as Chestnut-sided, Black-and-white, Yellow, Blackburnian, American Redstart, and Tennessee Warblers are relatively easy to observe in the Central Valley.
To make the most of your birdwatching experience in Costa Rica, consider visiting us during the green season and peak migration seasons and hiring one of our expert guides who can help you identify and appreciate the diverse birdlife.
