🌿 Meet our first experience: The First Silence

La Palma + El Hierro | Canary Islands

Two islands shaped by fire, ocean and time.

Our journey begins among the forests, volcanic landscapes and small communities of La Palma, before continuing to El Hierro — remote, elemental and wonderfully unhurried.

But The First Silence isn't simply about discovering two beautiful islands.

It's about how we choose to experience them.

🌿 We travel in very small groups, creating space for genuine relationships with our Journey Host, local people and one another.

🌿 We stay in locally owned or carefully selected accommodation that reflects the character of the places we visit.

🌿 We seek out local producers, independent businesses and meaningful encounters that keep more of the value of travel within the destination.

🌿 We aim to collaborate with a local NGO or community initiative, allowing each journey to contribute in a small but tangible way to the islands that welcome us.

🌿 And we deliberately leave space for walking, contemplation and simply being present — without feeling the need to fill every hour.

Small groups allow us to go deeper: to listen, to ask questions, to share a table and to develop a more meaningful connection with the people and landscapes that shape these islands.

Because regenerative travel isn't only about leaving less behind.

It's about asking whether our presence can leave something positive behind too.

Something we've been working on for weeks is finally ready to share. 🌿

Today, we're delighted to present the official Be Local film.

It captures something that can be difficult to explain with words: the feeling we want our journeys to create.

The feeling of slowing down.

Of waking up surrounded by nature. Sharing a table with people you've only just met. Walking without rushing. Meeting the people behind the food, wine and traditions of a place. Having time for conversation — and sometimes simply having time for silence.

In 2027, we'll begin this journey across La Palma and El Hierro, Portugal's Atlantic coast, Asturias, and Slovenia's beautiful Vipava and Soča valleys, ending by the Adriatic in Piran.

Small groups. Quieter seasons. Local connections. Nature. Reflection. And a commitment to leaving something positive behind in the places that welcome us.

This is Be Local.

And this film is our invitation to experience it with us.

🌿 Why do we deliberately avoid peak season?

At first, it might seem like an unusual decision.

After all, July and August are when travel demand is at its highest.

But at Be Local Explorers, we don't design our slow travel experiences around peak demand.

We curate them around the quality of the experience—for both our guests and the communities that welcome us.

🌿 Quieter trails.

🌿 Family-run restaurants with time to welcome us as guests.

🌿 Local producers who can share their stories without feeling rushed.

🌿 Nature returning to its own rhythm.

🌿 More meaningful connections with the people who call these places home.

We also believe this approach helps distribute the benefits of travel more evenly throughout the year, supporting local communities beyond the traditional tourist season.

For us, choosing the right season isn't simply about avoiding crowds.

It's about creating space for genuine connection—with nature, with local communities and with ourselves.
