On Cano Island, there are two guided snorkeling sessions, the time for each session is one and a half hours.

At la Merced wildlife refuge horses are carefully trained for you to have a pleasant experience. You will go through the refuge amidst the forest, towards Playa Hermosa wild beach, aside of the Ballena Marine National Park.

Groups are kept individualized as they book the tour, in order to have an enjoyable experience.

La Merced Wildlife refuge is located 3 km north from Uvita Information Center, please take the main road to the north and keep driving for 3 km. On your left side you will see a big sign. Take the entrance on the left and drive few meters. You will find the reception there. You can use waze or google maps under “Rancho la Merced”.

BAHIA BALLENA BEACH

Sand and sun Whales Tres Hermanas Island Marine National Park Whale Beach

Located between the cities of Piñuela and Uvita, Bahía Ballena Beach is part of the great Ballena Marine National Park. The largest marine reserve, which was created in 1990, was named for its humpback whales since many frequent its waters. Beach visitors are more likely to see the magnificent creatures between December and March of each year, when the animals migrate through the adjacent bay. Many interesting animals also live on land near Playa Bahía Ballena. The beach is home to the nesting colonies of several exotic bird species, including magnificent frigates and blue-legged pikes. Large groups of green iguanas and lizards can also be seen running through the sand, and the beach seems to come to life every day when hermit crabs go in and out of the water.

In Playa Ballena there are also the administrative offices of the Ballena Marine Park, Osa Conservation Area. Here you can find information about the site and its surroundings.
