With its vibrant golden blooms and perfectly rounded petals, the Globe flower (Trollius europaeus) looks like a wild buttercup dressed for a royal ball.
🌼 Native to the cool, moist meadows and alpine regions of Europe, the Globe flower is right at home in the Balkan highlands, especially in Montenegro, Bosnia, and Slovenia, where it thrives in subalpine forests and near glacial streams.
It blooms in late spring and early summer, often catching the eye of hikers like a tiny sun rising from the grass. Botanically, it’s a member of the Ranunculaceae family, and while it looks sweet, it’s mildly toxic to livestock — nature’s way of keeping it safe.
