They say if you keep them close, they’ll never learn to stand on their own. 👀
Whenever people—especially from the older generations—see me still babywearing my 5-year-old daughter, I get the side-eyes. I’ve been told I’m spoiling her, asked why she’d ever bother to walk, and warned that I’ll regret it.
It’s always felt so backward to me. The same people who judge an ergonomic carrier will wind up carrying their own kids straddled on a hip with zero support.
People forget that children are still just children. If they feel safe in our arms, taking that away is cruel. Having a safe haven doesn't make a child less capable—it gives them the emotional security to be brave.
Case in point: our trip to the Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur. 🧗♀️
Looking up at those massive stairs, she was completely determined to scale them. Not only did she make it all the way to the top on her own two feet, but she explored the entire inside of the cave, and then proceeded to walk all the way back down!
Toward the last few flights, her little legs started to waiver. But with a little encouragement and a quick pep talk, she pushed through. When her foot hit that final step, we celebrated, and she was so utterly overwhelmed with pride that she broke down in tears in my arms. 😭❤️
She did it. On her own.
No matter how many times I have carried her, she is a strong, fierce, and determined divine feminine spirit. Secure attachment doesn't hold them back—it gives them the wings to fly. 🕊️✨
