[ESP] ¿Qué te parece si hablamos de algunas criaturas aterradoras de Cuba por Halloween? 👻
1. Güije o Chichiricú
El Güije, también conocido como Jigüe o Chichiricú, es una figura legendaria arraigada en el folclore cubano. Descrito como un ser diminuto de piel oscura y cabello abundante, se dice que los Güijes habitan ríos, estanques y reservorios de agua dulce. Estos seres de apariencia humana actúan como guardianes de la naturaleza, asegurando la paz y la tranquilidad en el campo. Se cree que cuando un Güije presencia una maldad, los pájaros cantan como si dijeran: "Te vi".
2. Cagüeiro
El Cagüeiro es una figura prominente en la mitología cubana, que se encuentra principalmente en la parte oriental del país. Este ser mitológico se presenta a menudo como un bandido o ladrón que roba a cualquiera que tenga la mala suerte de cruzarse en su camino. Un verdadero forajido que recuerda a las películas del Salvaje Oeste, el Cagüeiro nunca ha sido capturado, gracias a su habilidad para camuflarse en la flora y fauna locales mediante la recitación de un encantamiento especial cuando enfrenta el peligro de ser capturado.
3. Babujal
Muchos mitos cubanos tienen sus raíces en la cultura indígena de la isla. La leyenda del "Babujal", profundamente arraigada en la parte central del país, es uno de ellos. Según algunos antropólogos, para los indígenas siboneyes, el "Babujal" era un espíritu maligno que se presentaba en forma de un gran lagarto y habitaba en el estómago de ciertas personas.
4. Madre de Aguas
A diferencia de otras regiones de América Latina, la Madre de Aguas en Cuba no es una sirena ni una hermosa diosa. En su lugar, toma la forma de una enorme serpiente con cuernos en la cabeza y escamas muy duras. La descripción puede no ser atractiva, pero tiende hacia la exageración y la fantasía, sin embargo, todo en esta isla tiene su sabor único.
5. Ñangajúa
En el folclore cubano, existe una versión nacional del personaje del folclore eslavo Baba Yagá llamada "Ñangajúa". Se la representa como una bruja malévola y poco atractiva que reside en el campo cubano y se alimenta de niños, especialmente aquellos que viven en las afueras del bosque.

The Güije, also known as Jigüe or Chichiricú, is a legendary figure deeply rooted in Cuban folklore. Described as a tiny, dark-skinned being with a lot of hair, Güijes are said to inhabit rivers, ponds, and freshwater reservoirs. These human-like creatures serve as guardians of nature, ensuring peace and tranquility in the countryside. It is believed that when a Güije witnesses wrongdoing, the birds sing as if to say, "I saw you."
2. Cagüeiro
The Cagüeiro is a prominent figure in Cuban mythology, primarily found in the eastern part of the country. This mythological being is often portrayed as a bandit or thief who robs anyone unfortunate enough to cross his path. A true outlaw reminiscent of Wild West movies, the Cagüeiro has never been captured, thanks to his ability to blend in with the local flora and fauna by reciting a special incantation when faced with potential capture.
3. Babujal
Many Cuban myths have their origins in the island's indigenous culture. The legend of the "Babujal," deeply rooted in the central part of the country, is one of them. According to some anthropologists, for the Siboney indigenous people, the "Babujal" was an evil spirit that appeared in the form of a large lizard and dwelled in the stomachs of certain individuals.
4. Mother of Waters ‘Madre de Aguas’
In contrast to other regions of Latin America, the Madre de Aguas in Cuba isn't a mermaid or a beautiful goddess. Instead, it takes the form of a huge snake with a pair of horns on its head and very tough scales. The description may not be alluring but leans more towards exaggeration and fantasy, yet everything on this island has its unique flavor.
5. Ñangajúa
In Cuban folklore, there's a national version of the Slavic folklore character Baba Yagá called "Ñangajúa." She's portrayed as a malevolent and unattractive witch who resides in the Cuban countryside and preys on children, especially those living on the outskirts of the forest.

[ESP] Un guía de Free Walking Tour Havana intenta rescatar a turistas desamparados de los horrores de la falta de conocimiento. Sin embargo, ellos no tenían idea de que su aventura se convertiría en una odisea.
Mira 'Perdidos en La Habana', una joya cinematográfica que solo podría ser igualada por 'The Room' (Tommy Wiseau, 2003) en su audacia. Con suerte, no permanecerá mucho tiempo en cines.
PD: ¡Sí! ¡Nuestro equipo también quería protagonizar una película de Disney! 🙂
[ENG] A guide from Free Walking Tour Havana attempts to rescue helpless tourists from the horrors of cluelessness and tourist traps. Little do they know, their adventure will become a nightmarish odyssey.
Watch ‘Lost in Havana’, a cinematic gem that could only be rivalled by 'The Room' (Tommy Wiseau, 2003) in its audacity. Hopefully, it won't be in cinemas for long.
