Have you heard about Cuba’s rationing system and the "libreta de abastecimiento" (ration book)? 🤔
The rationing system was created to offer some level of equity in access to resources for the population. Although it has considerably shrunk over time, it remains an essential source of food for most Cubans, especially the poorer sectors.
However, the ration book does not cover all consumption needs, which have to be met in other markets.
During our , we will dive into how this system works, and you will get a firsthand look at the local “bodegas” (ration stores). Are you up for it?😉

The Orishas (also Oricha and Orishá) are the deities in the Yoruba religion. Each orisha has a variety of favourite foods known through myth or words transmitted by oral tradition.
The ritual practice of cooking for an orisha has its roots in the concept of aché, a word of Yoruba origin meaning vital energy or "grace, blessing, virtue". Some of the ceremonies where food is offered to the orishas are saints' birthdays and initiation ceremonies.

The majestic staircase of the University of Havana features one of the most iconic symbols of higher education in Cuba: the Alma Mater.
The statue represents the goddess of wisdom from Greek and Roman mythologies. It was sculpted by Mario Korbel, who chose Feliciana Villalón y Wilson, a 16-year-old Cuban teenager as model.
Commissioned by the Ministry of Public Works, Korbel began the sculpture in 1919. After completing the initial phase, the prototype was sent to New York to be cast in bronze by the Roman Bronze Work company.
The sculpture was placed for the first time on still rustic land in 1920, and seven years later in the place where we can contemplate it today. The Alma Mater lies on a stone pedestal and is surrounded by six Greek-style female figures symbolizing various academic disciplines.
The staircase of the university is precisely the meeting point for our Havana on Foot experience.
