Sunwing is flying again to Holguin beginning December 15th. I'm available for excellent taxi and tour.
Our health in Holguin has been excellent and people are being very safety conscious.
Enjoy our wonderful beaches and attractions.

Waiting for a vaccine. Can't wait to get back to Holguin. Let's hope November December brings good news to all of us.

So here's an idea....lets adopt Cuba! 9 million people ( fabulous, hard working g people), one quarter of our population
We'd get fruits and veggies in the winter months, lotsa rum, and our tourist dollars back.
We'd help them switch to solar, sell them some gas and oil from our east coast, instead of Russia, New Flyer buses from Winnipeg, instead of China....consumer foods made in Canada....and p**s off the US
Barack was headed that way....let's be proactive.

Sometimes life gets in the way of the really important things.
I may not be able to get to Holguin this winter. I'm thinking spring....maybe the sloppy part of Ontario spring.
Danny has the car looking sharp. I'm anxious to get there to see it. Maybe we'll go fishing again.
Can't wait.

Danny is working hard refurbishing his car . . . .it'll be better than new!
We had dinner with Danny and Sara in Melilla. Melilla is the village closest to the resorts at Holquin. Many of the resort workers live there.
Le Finquita Alegre is a great find. Jesus, who works at Costa Verde at the Aquabar, owns the cafe. It's another example of the entrepreneurial spirit in Cuba. The government is allowing more Cubans to open small enterprises. I'd certainly recommend the place to folks who want to experience the flavour of the villages and the culture away from the resorts.

We visited Playa Pesquero for 2 weeks at the end of November. Perfect weather and certainly less crowded. The embargoes have not affected the food or supplies at the resorts. I'm embarrassed to say that the same can not be said off site. The peoples of Cuba are suffering from shortages of food, diesel, and medical supplies . . .through no fault of their own.
Danny promises his Chevy will be up and running by the end of January. I'm looking forward to being there in February.

Good times in Holguin with Danny.

We're heading to Holguin and Playa Pesquero in a couple of weeks. There have been many reviews of the resorts in Cuba that reflect several unfortunate circumstances.
The demise of Thomas Cooke Travel has significantly reduced the numbers at the resorts. This has caused management to close some of the restaurants and cut back on some of the amenities . . .entertainment, stocking frigs, etc.
Politics in the US, Brazil, and Venezuela have made a shortage in food and other goods.
But if you're a frequent visitor to Cuba and especially Holguin, this is an opportunity to show our support by continuing the relationship with the wonderful people there. We've made some terrific friends there and are determined to take items that Cuban families need during this time. We pack an extra suitcase of health products, over the counter meds, and this visit we're adding dry goods of rice, beans and canola oil. Cooking oil is in short supply.
Danny is using this slow period to maintain his taxi and it's out of service. He is, however, providing the name and number of his neighbour in Fray Benito. I will post this contact when it;s available. We hope to share a meal with Danny and his wife during the visit. Danny's family is proud and hardworking. His father is having some health problems and Danny is using his time caring for his padre.
So if you're heading to Cuba, please consider helping out in any way that you can. It's rather embarrassing that Canada isn't helping out. Our farmers could really benefit from trade with the island. But Big Brother Yankee Doodle wouldn't think that was dandy. Pity

We're starting to get organized for our November/December trip to Holguin.
We realize the embargoes if the US, Brazil and the turmoil in Venezuela have hurt the Cuban people. Trip advisor posts show that the resorts are not suffering the same shortages.
We usually take an extra suitcase of things to leave behind for our friends. Mostly it's been toothpaste and toothbrushes and stuff for the kids.
This time we're packing dried food stuffs; things that aren't readily available there.
Just a thought for anyone headed to Cuba.
I'll soon by writing to Danny. In hoping the people of Fray Benito are coping with the situation.
Please let me know through the page if you've just returned. I'd be interested in your observations.

Sp we're booked for playa Pesquaro in November _ December, 2 weeks...$3600. Its cheaper outta Toronto.
Danny is taking us to Gibara on a day trip
It's an authentic fishing village east of holguin.
Google the village and check out the restaurants on the outskirts. Well be lunching at a new find that had terrific reviews.
