We have another one of the 11 beach bars to show you 🏝️. This time we highlight “Toca de Garoupa” ✨.

This is one of the oldest beach bars in Sal rei 🇨🇻. Toca de Garoupa just has new British owners, who are also the owners of the new resort Tarafo Bay🐢, that will be build close to the Touareg.

The bar is located on Estoril beach where you have the calmest beach and a view on the uninhabited island of Djeu 🏝️. Estoril is the best beach to relax and have a beautiful beach day. You can catch a boat to go to the island or rent paddle boards as well.

Toca de Garoupa has very nice food but best of all is their staff and level of service ❤️. We can also highly recommend their mocktails and cocktails 😂🍹.

What can you expect during the tour?
- We''ll go off road, drive through Sal rei and drive through via pittoreska ✨to the shipwreck in a 4x4 car. 🚘
- After the off road drive we’ll take some time to explore the Cabo Santa Maria Shipwreck that has been here since 1968. 🚢⚓️
- From the shipwreck we'll drive to the mountains and walk down into the canyon 🗻. There is a basic level of fitness 🏋️ required and you’ll probably get dirty hahah.
- After the canyon we’ll walk over to a deserted beach.
- From the canyon we'll go over to the fatima chapel. Here we’ll enjoy the beautiful view 🌅
- After the chapel we’ll walk over to a hidden beach with calm waters 🏝️ where we can enjoy a refreshing swim.
- We’ll finish the tour with a drink at a beach front restaurant in Sal rei 🍹

As many of you know, we mostly organise private tours... but we have news 😂. We also organise this tour as a group tour. You can join the tour every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. We start between 08:30 and 09:00.

🌴It’s is that time of year 🥳🥁 Carnval 2026 has arrived 💃🎭

Today in Sal rei, at av. Aristides Pereira, (CAC) we have the parade starting at 15:00. The desfile dos groupos start at 17:00.

What can you expect:
- Each neighborhood comes with their own carnaval theme, carnvals wagon, outfits, dancing and music 🎷 🥳
- ⁠A LOT of music and dancing and beautiful outfits 💃🌴
- ⁠It is not just a parade where all the roads are blocked off, you come close to the participants and it is like you stand among them 🥁✨
- ⁠Mandingas, A unique tradition where participants paint themselves black and wear grass-like costumes to honor African heritage and address identity.
- ⁠There is never definite end time and the party continues in town after the parade with a lot of live music everywhere ❤️🇨🇻

The carnaval in Boa Vista is community celebration. It isnt big like in Brasil or Mindelo but it is a celebration that combines the Cape Verdean hospitality (Morabeza), Batucada, Portuguese traditions and local folklore all together.

Originally the carnaval comes from the entrudo festival in Portugal🇵🇹, but later turned into a catholic celebration before lent. Over time it evolved into an event with African traditions, rhythms 🥁 and dance styles and grew into an organized parade with groups preparing costumes, music and choreography ✨🎭.

So if you are here now, come out of the resort! And come to town to experience something truely Cape Verdean 🇨🇻. Join the party and experience the real Cape Verdean Morabeza ❤️.

Some of you might know the famous song “Sodade” by Cesària Evora. She is the queen 👑 of Morna music. The song Sodade is the perfect example of the Cape Verdean melancholic music genre “Morna”.

Morna is music about longing, a deep feeling of missing home and love that remains. To understand the Morna music, you need to know more about the history of Cape Verde. And we’ll tell you all about it ❤️

To understand the music 🎻, you need to know that Cape Verde is one of the few nations in the world that is born out of the transatlantic slave trade. In the 1400s Portuguese settlers occupied the islands and turned them into a trading post where enslaved people would be taken from West Africa and trafficked to Europe and the Americas.

After the abolition of slavery, recurring droughts and desertification in Cape Verde resulted in periods of famine and epidemics. This led to several eras of mass migration which shaped the history of our islands. And, the music of Morna.

Morna is truely something originally from Cape Verde 🇨🇻 . If you want to understand the culture and people of the island, listening to Morna is a good way to do it.

Recently a new restaurant (you already guessed it) named Morna’s has been opened on Estoril beach 🏝️ . It is a really nice place with good food and most of all a beautiful view. And the best thing, they have a few times per week live Morna music.

Are you an animal lover? 🐈🌴 Yes? Do you prefer to get away from the “tourist hotspots”? Yes? ✅ Then definitely keep reading 😂. We tried to make a tour especially for what you might like.

So what does the tour include?
- the Santos farm and the traditional town of Bofareira 🐐
- Get a chance to milk a goat and to pet the baby goats. (See how agriculture/farming is done here and how the animals roam freely)
- Overlooking point near our Grand Canyon like landscape.
- A drive through the towns of Joao Galego & Fundo das figueiras 🌸
- Snorkeling at the Gatas bay. Get the chance to see pufferfish, lobsters, different type of coral/fish and if you are lucky nurse sharks, lemon sharks or turtles 🐢🦈
- Lunch at the banana plant garden in Fundo das figueiras 🌿
- After lunch you get the time to explore the old church in town. Or if you prefer, some time for souvenir shopping or trying out Papaya jam & Goat cheese 🧀
- Visit to the cat sanctuary 🐈 in the furthest town of the north. The sanctuary is run by Adrian, an army veteran.
- Then we’ll drive back via Route 66, where we’ll stop on top of the mountain to enjoy the beautiful view.

Boa Vista has a lot to offer when it comes to marine life and the beautiful landscapes. We tried to combine just that.

Did you want to see the turtles in their natural habitat during the turtle nesting tours, but is the season over? No Stress! 🇨🇻. In Boa Vista, you can see them all year round 🐢🥳.

The green turtles and loggerhead turtles can be seen in Turtle Bay. We visit this bay during our full-day and half-day nature excursions 🙌🏽😄. These are the stops we make during our half-day excursion:

- Sand dunes of Morro de Arreia. Here you can also try sandboarding 🏄🏽‍♂️(or just enjoy the beautiful view)
- Turtle Bay 🐢
- Shark Bay 🦈. (Normally, you can see baby lemon sharks here. At the moment, due to the strange weather, it is a bit unpredictable)
- The love caves at Praia Varandinha
- Santa Monica Beach, the most beautiful beach 🏝️

Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot of people say that the hotel food is very repetitive. The food is either undercooked or overcooked, to salty or to bland. Or some even forgot their long trousers and can’t get into the “speciality” restaurants 😂.

In the town of Sal rei you are spoiled for choice. We have LOTS of good restaurants and many new ones. You’d be surprised by the quality of food. AND, you don’t need long trousers to have dinner in town 👌🏽😂.

You might have heard of the ice cream parlour: Cremositos 🍦🤤. But did you know they also have a restaurant with some of the best meat dishes in town? We can highly recommend their pasta’s (Italian owned) and their mixed grill. We promise you won’t be disappointed. And you’ll be dining in style while overlooking the ocean.

So why not try something else instead of only the hotel restaurants, and you support local business at the same time 🫶🏽.

So take a taxi to town and enjoy an evening out 🚕.
