The International Organisation for Migration says two Nigerians were rescued, while two others died after a vessel carrying 49 people capsized in the Mediterranean Sea.
The journey across the Mediterranean Sea is considered the world's deadliest migration route for people attempting to reach Europe irregularly. The dangers are severe and multifaceted, often leading to tragic loss of life and exploitation.
The primary risks encountered during the sea crossing include:
Drowning and Shipwreck: This is the most lethal danger. Migrants are typically transported on unseaworthy, severely overcrowded, and unfit vessels (often dinghies or old fishing trawlers) supplied by smugglers. These boats are highly vulnerable to bad weather, high seas, and structural failure, frequently resulting in mass drownings.
Lack of Safety Equipment: Boats often lack sufficient life jackets, communication tools, and adequate fuel, leaving passengers stranded and exposed.
Exposure: The long journey exposes individuals to extreme elements, including dehydration, exhaustion, hunger, heatstroke, and hypothermia, which can be fatal.
"Invisible Shipwrecks": The actual death toll is likely much higher than official figures, as many vessels sink without being witnessed, and bodies are never recovered.
The purpose of this post is to discourage those that are planning to embark on such dangerous journey, a journey of no return. No risk is worth taking, guide ur life jealously. Ur life is too precious to gamble with. Say no illegal immigration.
