A CACHALOT OFF THE COAST OF CYPRUS 😱

On August 5, a cachalot (also known as s***m whale) was spotted off the northwestern coast of Cyprus! It was captured by Panagiotis Nikolaides, captain of the boat Seize the Day.

The length of the giant was 12-13 meters.

According to Nikolaides, seeing a cachalot here is a rarity. The last time one was spotted in Cyprus in 2016, 80 kilometers from Zygi.

More often you can encounter other sea creatures, such as dolphins, turtles, swordfish or large tuna 🐟

FEATURES OF SWIMMING IN AUGUST
Run, turtles, run!

August is one of the months when marvelous creatures are born in Cyprus. These babies are the loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas). Baby turtles usually get out of the egg clutches buried in the sand at night. Then, they immediately begin a dangerous path to the sea, threatened by predatory animals and birds. They need to run fast, not to become someone's dinner in the first minutes after birth.

❓Why did the turtles choose Cyprus?

The water temperature, the secluded sandy beaches, and the relative safety in the coastal waters are ideal for these reptiles.

❓Where do turtles lay their eggs?

On many different sandy beaches.

❓Can you watch the birth of turtles?

The question is not whether you can, but whether your should! After all, any intervention can cause injury or even death to these rare creatures. But if you are already on a turtle beach, then be sure (!!!) to observe the following rules:
🐢 On the protected beaches, you cannot bring sun loungers, have picnics, run on the sand, or do other traditional beach activities.
🐢 Do not break or move protective devices that are installed by employees of scientific stations.
🐢 If you want to help, you can contact the turtle station to become a volunteer. They will tell you what help is required and how to behave so as not to cause harm to the turtles.
🐢 Do not approach the clutches and turtle. Especially do not take them in your hands! Better to wish them a safe, stress-free journey to the sea. Quoting a famous movie - "Run, Forrest, run!"

This time we deliberately did not publish links to the location of the beaches mentioned above. People are not welcome guests in these places. Please, do not disturb the already rare turtles.
