Mother Warming, traditional healing practice utilizing Moxibustion, is a wonderful way to support new mothers in their postpartum recovery. Moxibustion involves the burning of mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) near specific acupuncture points to help stimulate circulation, warm the body, and promote overall healing. It is particularly beneficial after childbirth, as it helps to tonify and invigorate the body's energy, reduce coldness, and support the recovery of the uterus and internal organs.During the session, Moxibustion is applied for up to 10 minutes. This gentle treatment is often combined with a soothing abdominal massage, which enhances relaxation and provides additional benefits for digestion and circulation. The warming sensation not only feels comforting but also helps to bring balance and nourishment to the body after the strain of childbirth.Benefits of Mother Warming with Moxibustion:Promotes Healing: Supports uterine recovery and helps the body return to its pre-pregnancy state.Increases Circulation: Enhances blood flow to the abdominal area, aiding in the removal of toxins.Reduces Coldness and Stagnation: Helps eliminate coldness in the body that may occur postpartum.Relieves Tension: The abdominal massage combined with Moxibustion can help ease muscle tension and promote relaxation.Balances Hormones: Supports overall hormonal balance after childbirth, helping the body adjust to post-pregnancy changes.I offer Mother Warming with Moxibustion in the comfort of your home, with a focus on creating a peaceful, healing environment for new mothers. The session lasts a maximum of 10 minutes and is combined with a gentle abdominal massage to further support your postpartum healing. The cost of this personalized treatment is 45 €, and it is available as a home visit following childbirth.Feel free to contact me if you're interested in booking a session or would like more information!

🌸 Postnatal recovery takes time & patience! 🌼

Many of you may have heard of (Bengkung) Belly Binding or abdominal belts and are considering whether it should be part of your postnatal recovery. While belly binding is valued as a supportive tradition in many cultures, it's important to understand its limits.

🌸 Belly binding can offer soothing support by providing a sense of security and gently supporting the recovery process. However, it is not a cure-all. The body needs time to recover.

💖 Rest and nutrition are important for healthy recovery. Especially protein- and fiber-rich foods have a positive effect.

💪 Gentle movement and targeted postnatal exercises play a crucial role. An abdominal belt can provide temporary support, but strengthening the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles is essential. Start with light postpartum exercises as soon as you feel ready.

🕒 Moderate use of the abdominal belt is recommended. Constant wearing can weaken the muscles, as they are less challenged. Use the belt for a few hours at a time to help your body adjust without bypassing the important work of the muscles.

🌿 Recovery is individual. Every body is unique. Therefore, do not compare yourselves, as recovery depends on so many factors, such as age, mode of delivery, tissue, size of the child...

Scars, whether from a cesarean section or minimally invasive procedures like laparoscopy, are often underestimated. While minimally invasive techniques are considered to be gentle, they still leave tunnel-like scars that have both visible and invisible effects.

Scars can also cause physical complaints that are not directly associated with the scar itself. These can include headaches, states of exhaustion, digestive problems, diffuse complaints in the abdominal-pelvic area, or restrictions in movement. The appearance of scars is another aspect that plays a significant role for many women. For example, after a cesarean section, a so-called 'hangover' over the scar can often develop – a roll of skin that can arise from the adhesion of the upper skin layers and is found bothersome by many women. However, other cosmetic issues such as discoloration, thickening, or indentations can also affect self-image and quality of life.

For all these problems, there are treatment options, as explained in the article. Modern scar treatment offers a wide range of possibilities, from special massage or manual techniques, acupuncture, to procedures like laser therapy or injections, all intended to improve the appearance of the scar and alleviate complaints.

You are invited to schedule an appointment to have your scar examined and treated. I can visit you at your home, or you can come to my treatment room in Kissonerga. Please reach out to arrange a time that suits you.

After a cesarean section, a scar forms above the p***c bone, usually about 12-15 cm wide. However, scar tissue is different from normal skin and therefore requires special care to heal optimally and adapt. Unlike healthy skin, which is smooth and elastic, scar tissue can often be firmer, less elastic, and vary in color and texture.

Good scar care can improve the appearance of scars, making the scar softer, flatter, and less visible. The healing process is promoted, and the formation of new tissue is encouraged. This is particularly important in the early stages of scar formation.

Scars are often less elastic and can therefore be perceived as restrictive. Scar massages can improve mobility and elasticity. After a cesarean section, you can start with gentle stroking movements over the scar after 10 days, using oil or a cream to additionally moisturize the tissue. After about 6 weeks, the scar is firm enough to massage deeper into the tissue. This can help dissolve adhesions in the upper layers of skin. Many women after a cesarean section notice a roll forming over the scar. It is partly caused by adhesions that can be released through massages.

The surgery damaged skin nerves. Therefore, it's not unusual for the scar to have little feeling and for the area around the scar up to the navel to be numb. Massaging the scar tissue improves blood circulation and stimulates the formation of new skin nerves.

You see, there are several good reasons to take a few minutes each day to care for your scar. ☺️

Pregnancy is a time full of changes, during which the female body performs a miracle. In just 9 months, a fully-formed human grows, as unique as each one of us.

How a fertilized egg cell grows into a child, how it is nourished, and finally born, has fascinated me since I was a tender 15 years old, so much so that no other career aspiration but to become a midwife ever came into question.

Incredible, but true... this year marks 20 years since I completed my midwifery examination. I have accompanied countless women during this time and have had the privilege of experiencing the miracle of 'giving life' myself twice, having two beautiful home births, which have influenced my work as a midwife.

I never tire of convincing women of their feminine power, positively empowering them, and encouraging them to actively participate in shaping their own childbirth. It is a great concern of mine to prepare women and their 'birth partners' as best as possible for the 'big day', to provide them with so much knowledge that they can fully engage in the adventure of childbirth."
