🏛️ Discover Cyprus: A Road Trip from Villa Laneia (Part 5 - The Grand Finale!) ⛰️✨
To wrap up our Cyprus road trip, we headed high up into the Troodos mountains towards Vavatsinia—and wow, what a grand finale!
If you are staying with us at Villa Laneia in Pissouri and want to trade the coast for cool mountain air, unbelievable panormas, and authentic village charm, a mountain drive is an absolute must. Here is how we spent our final stop:
🚗 The Drive & Stunning Panoramas
The main highlight of the entire trip was simply the drive up and through the mountains. The winding roads offer breathtaking views looking out over the island—on a clear day, you can even spot both Nicosia and Larnaca stretching out in the distance!
🏕️ Where We Stayed: 'Dome of Nature'
We stayed in the fabulous 'Dome of Nature' accommodation in the Vavatsinia area. It was wonderfully equipped, super comfy, and waking up to that view right out of the dome window was an unforgettable experience!
🍴 Maria’s Taverna & Local Hospitality
For dinner, we ate at Maria’s Taverna—a true traditional mountain tavern with delicious, authentic food. We even had the pleasure of meeting Maria herself, who was such a delight to chat with!
🧶 Exploring Kato Drys & The Bee & Embroidery Museum
On our way, we also stopped at Kato Drys, another peaceful, traditional stone-built village nestled nearby. We visited the wonderful Bee & Embroidery Museum, housed inside a restored traditional Cypriot home. It offers a fascinating look into old rural life, displaying traditional beekeeping tools, honey processing, and intricate needlework handed down through generations!
🧵 Exploring Lefkara
On our way, we visited the world-famous village of Lefkara. We loved wandering its beautiful cobbled streets, taking in the historic church, and browsing the countless shops selling traditional handmade lace and delicate silver. Plus, there are plenty of cozy spots to sit back with a drink and a snack!
History Fact: According to local legend, Leonardo da Vinci visited Lefkara back in 1481 and bought an embroidered altar cloth for the Cathedral of Milan—a style of lace (Lefkaritika) so famous it is now protected by UNESCO!
🌿 Wandering Vavatsinia
We also spent time wandering Vavatsinia, a quiet and delightful little mountain village. It’s small and peaceful, but well worth a gentle stroll to soak in the mountain atmosphere.
History Fact: The village of Vavatsinia takes its name from Vavatsinia (the local Greek word for mulberry trees), which were historically cultivated here for silkworms!
This road trip showed us just how incredibly diverse Cyprus is—from picturesque w**e villages and bustling coastal cities to quiet mountain peaks. And the best part? You can easily explore them all on day trips while returning to relax by your private pool at Villa Laneia! ☀️🏊♂️
Thank you for following along with our road trip series!
