The Perfect Balance of Solo & Shared

Not everyone wants to travel completely alone…
and not everyone wants to be part of a group all the time.

That’s why Solo But Supported gives you both.

Some experiences shared — to connect, laugh, and create memories.
Some experiences solo — to explore, reflect, and do things your way.

The best of both worlds, designed around you. 🌍

I would so love to do this. I’m working unfortunately, but what a wonderful workshop 🧡

Just off the coast near St. Georges, on the edge of the Akamas Peninsula, sits the tiny island of Geronisos — known locally as the “Holy Island.”

Most days it rests quietly in the Mediterranean, a familiar backdrop to fishing boats and coastal trips. But during recent Winter weather, it became something else entirely.

During the stormy days on our island, my friend Emma Louise took these fabulous photos of Geronisos. Dramatic. Ancient. Almost mythic.

What many visitors don’t realise is that Geronisos is more than just a beautiful rock formation. Archaeological discoveries suggest the island was once an important sanctuary and settlement during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Pottery, structures and traces of ritual life have all been found there, giving this small island a surprisingly deep history.

That history feels almost tangible when the weather turns.

There’s something about the Akamas coastline in a storm that strips everything back. No filters. No polished travel moments. Just wind, sea, stone and centuries of stories held in the landscape.

This is what conscious travel means to me. Not rushing from one famous landmark to another, but experiencing a place in all its moods. Allowing nature to shape the experience. Standing quietly long enough to notice how a landscape can move through you.

And with these photos, Geronisos feels less like an island… and more like an old guardian watching the coast.
Thank you for sharing Emma 🙏

Each May, in the mountain village of Agros, the rose festival takes place.
At first light, the fields are quiet. The air is cool.
Hands move slowly, gathering petals that will become rose water, oils, and sweet preserves. The scent is delicate but unmistakable… grounding, calming, almost meditative.
This isn’t a festival in the usual sense. It’s a living tradition. A moment where land, people, and season come into harmony. The festival exists because of a single historical thread:
The Damascus rose was introduced to Agros in the early 1900s
The village built an entire micro-economy around it
Today, the festival is essentially a celebration of that lineage
This is why it feels authentic—it’s not created for visitors, it’s shared with them.
You can wander through small village streets, watch the ancient process of distillation, taste rose-infused delicacies, or simply sit and breathe it all in.

For those seeking more than just a place — for those seeking a feeling — this is Cyprus at its most authentic. Full Details below:

🌹 Agros Rose Festival 2026 — Key Facts
Official name: 18th Agros Rose Festival
Dates:
9–10 May 2026
16–17 May 2026
Location: Glafkos Clerides Sports Centre, Triantafyllon Street, Agros
Time: ~7:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily
Entry: Free
Organised by: Agros Community Council

🌿 What Makes This Festival Special
This isn’t a commercial flower festival—it’s deeply tied to land, tradition, and rhythm of nature.
Agros is the only village in Cyprus cultivating the Damascus rose (Rosa damascena) at scale, with around 20 tons harvested annually . The festival aligns exactly with the short bloom window (April–May), when the roses are most potent in aroma and oil.
There’s a very real sense of:
seasonality
community ritual
and living tradition

🌸 What You Can Experience
1. Rose Harvesting (the most magical part)
Early morning picking in the fields
Best experienced at sunrise when oils are strongest
Deeply sensory: cool air, fragrance, stillness

👉 This is where the festival feels almost like a meditation in nature.
2. Distillation of Rose Water
Live demonstrations of traditional copper stills
Learn how petals become:
rose water
essential oil
You’ll see the full transformation process

3. Rose-Based Products & Local Crafts
Expect a whole spectrum:
rose oil, hydrosols, cosmetics
rose sweets (especially spoon sweet)
liqueurs, syrups, loukoumi
handmade goods
There are kiosks and small producers, not mass-market stalls.

4. Cultural Programme
Traditional Cypriot music & dance
Folk performances throughout the day
Community-led, not staged tourism

5. Food & Village Life
Local delicacies and mountain cuisine
Open houses, churches, and small museums
A chance to explore Agros beyond the festival

6. Community Train & Easy Exploration
A small train runs around the village
Good if you want a gentle, slow-paced experience

🧭 Practical Tips (worth knowing)

→ the magic is not just the programme, but the atmosphere
