Let's celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the Velvet Revolution – officially known as the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day by a light show! This one is sponsored by a private company, the bank Česká spořitelna.

“On Nov.17, we will celebrate the holiday of freedom. That is why we will bring light over Prague with a great drone show. Take your keys and come at 6:30 pm to the Legion Bridge at the National Theatre or to the embankment at the Jirásek Bridge in Prague to experience what people who rang their keys for freedom 32 years ago.”

This week, the Czech Republic has been covered by low clouds. ☁️ In lowland, it is cloudy, gloomy and cold, while when you climb a little higher, you have a much more interesting view. Thanks to the inversion, you can enjoy sunny weather ☀️ and observe the autumn landscape shrouded in cloud cover from various hills and Czech mountains 🏔

🕯All Souls' Day or Dušičky in Czech is a day of remembrance for our loved ones who are no longer with us. It falls on November 2 and is associated with traditions that have been observed since the 10th century when originally Celtic festival of Samhain was Christianized.

Even for atheists, Dušičky is a day of remembrance and an opportunity to stop, honor the memory of loved ones and forgive old wrongs, even if only by lighting a candle at home or exposing flowers and decorations. The burning candle has another meaning. It symbolizes the belief in eternal life and that the soul of the deceased is still with us.

The Czech Republic is celebrating 102 years of its independence today. Unfortunately there are no big events and ceremonies due to the Covid-19 situation however you can still enjoy a stroll through empty autumn Prague and honor the memory of Thomas Masaryk, the first president of independent Czechoslovakia (1918).
