Czech government closes shops, restaurants, casinos

The Czech government has ordered the closure of all shops with the exception of grocery stores, pharmacies, drugstores and petrol stations effective as of 6am March 14. This new measure to combat the spread of the coronavirus is scheduled to last until 06:00 on Tuesday, 24 March. The government has also closed restaurants and other food service establishments, with the exception of employee catering. Games and casinos will also be closed from 06:00 on Saturday.

On 12 March, the Czech government declared a 30-day state of emergency, closing all pubs and restaurants from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. and banning all events with more than 30 people. Most monuments, museums, galleries, cinemas, and cultural institutions are closed.

Citizens of Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK will not be admitted from midnight on Friday, with the exception of those with permanent or long-term residence in the Czech Republic. Border controls will also be tightened from midnight on Friday.

Starting on Monday 16 March, all foreign nationals will be prohibited from entering the country, along with Czech nationals and residents prohibited from leaving the country. Proven work commutes will be granted an exception.
