Hey yall! My name is Haley Evenson and I’m from Apex, North Carolina. I’m majoring in Nuclear Engineering and Science, Technology, and Society and minoring in French. I chose to spend my summer abroad in Prague to gain an international perspective in engineering and immerse myself in a new culture and it has already been an incredible experience!

Haley is part of our Prague Summer E101 program and will take you for a day on an exciting field trip to the Škoda car manufacturer’s factory and museum located in Mladá Boleslav, a city just north of Prague. Have your questions ready for Haley!

Stripes are in! During orientation this week, both students and staff were spotted wearing striped tops. We couldn’t help but make a post! Do you ever find yourself matching outfits or colors with a friend or colleague? It seems to happen quite frequently among the staff at NC State European Center in Prague! 😁

A warm welcome to all our summer students! It had been challenging to get everyone on the camera roll! Sorry if we missed anyone. We have so many students that we have to split them into two carousels! So this is carousel one 😉

What if science could rewrite the human blueprint — and how do we decide if it should?

In the Philosophy of Contemporary Moral Issues class, students engaged in a vital conversation about the ethics of genetic engineering. Drawing on insights from Dr. Věra Franková and Dr. Jaromír Matějek at Charles University in Prague, they explored the complexities of somatic versus germline engineering and the intersection of science and ethics.

The discussion was student-led, featuring bold questions and genuine concerns about humanity's future. Dr. Franková and Dr. Matějek emphasized that as genetic engineering evolves, so must the ethical conversations surrounding it. It's crucial for the next generation of thinkers to participate in these discussions.

A special thank-you to Dr. Franková and Dr. Matějek for contributing their expertise to NC State Prague students.
