Today we took a lovely trip to another part of Sicily. We drove to the Abbazia Santa Maria del Bosco. A truly magical place. The abbey has belonged to the family of Barone Inglese since 1866 and is now a hotel with 14 rooms. However, many weddings and other celebrations also take place here. We are staying overnight and enjoy the silence and the historic walls of this ancient place.

It’s blooming in the Madonie mountains. May is the most beautiful time of the year: the grass is still green, temperatures are usually below 30 degrees and many flowers are in bloom. This is also the best time of year for excursions in Sicily like hiking Rocca di Sciara in Caltavuturo. Experience this 4.5-kilometre circular trail near Caltavuturo. The route is generally classified as moderate and can usually be completed in 2 hours. Although the trail is ideal for hiking, you rarely meet other adventurers here. The Rocca di Sciara is a striking and imposing limestone massif that towers over the village of Caltavuturo in the Madonie Park. The ruins of Terravecchia Castle rise majestically below it, standing out against the surrounding agricultural landscape.
An excursion that is rich in naturalistic and cultural-historical impressions, but also very impressive.
