Comenius University Bratislava
Comenius university in Bratislava is the oldes and biggest university in the Slovak republic. Established in 1919, the university draws on the tradition of Academia Istropolitana that was founded in 1465 in Bratislava by Matthias Corvinus, the King of Hungary. Since its founding the university has ranked among the best educational institution on the national level and it has become an internationally recognised centre of scientific study and research. Being the most comprehensive provider of classical university education in Slovakia, Comenius university has retained the status of the Slovak national university.

Comenius university in Bratislava has 13 faculties and serves 27,000 students each year within all three degree study programmes, 21,000 of whom are full-time students. Comenius university offers diverse study programmes encompassing a broad range of human knowledge - from medicine, humanities and social sciences, to natural sciences, mathematics and theology.

Overview of Medical universities

The medical universities in the country offer quality education to the overseas students. The academic year begins from 1st September in the current year and ends on 31st August the next year. Bachelor study program is the first level program while the second level comprises of the masters level study program.

Various forms of instruction are used in the teaching process. The students take part in lectures, seminars, exercises and laboratory work. The European credit transfer system is used in the medical universities. This ensures that the course is recognized globally. In Slovakia, 45% of the foreign student enroll for medicine programs. The growing reputation of the medical degrees offered by the universities attracts a large number of students from across the globe. The courses offered by the faculties are general medicine program and nursing program. The general medicine program takes 6 years to complete while the nursing program takes 5 years. The dedicated staff includes researchers, professors, general practitioners and experienced physicians. The students are organized in small groups, and individual attention is paid to the students. Admission requirements

The Indian students need to clear the Senior Secondary examination from a recognized board and school. It is necessary to attain 18 years of age and complete high school with a consistent academic record. Admission examination is held by the universities which the students need to take before enrolling in the coveted programs. The entrance examination is based on the field of study. The universities offer the syllabus and previous test papers to the aspirants. The admission decision is made on the basis of the marks attained in school and on the score in the entrance examination. The students who do not meet all the criteria need to undertake preparatory classes. To enroll in the masters program, it is important that the bachelor’s program is completed successfully.

Documents required

The senior secondary mark sheet and school leaving certificate are mandatory documents needed for admission process. It is essential to furnish a health certificate which certifies that the student is physically and mentally fit to complete the medical program. A certificate attested by a medical practitioner will also suffice. The validation of high school certificate along with its translation in the Slovakian language needs to be submitted. A certified copy of the passport is mandatory. A concise CV needs to be submitted to the concerned college authorities. A valid copy of the passport is mandatory. To process the visa, the visa application form needs to be carefully filled. A letter of admission and two photographs are essential.

Fee Structure

The tuition fee for the Indian students who pursue a medical course in Slovakia is 8500 Euros.

Language requirements

To pursue a medical program in Slovakia, it is necessary that you are proficient in English. Preparatory courses can be attended by the international students.

Slovenia is a quaint place that fits in your pocket
Slovenia is positioned right in the heart of Europe - more or less at its geometrical centre - between Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. If you’re going there, you’ll have no problem travelling by plane as long as you’re going to the main airport in Ljubljana (the capital), or coming in from close-by airports in the following cities: Graz, Vienna, Klagenfurt, Venice, Trieste, or Zagreb. More adventurous students, of course, are inclined to come in by train, so that they can jump from city-to-city, fitting as many locations as possible into a short, cheap trip.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR international STUDENTS, PhD STUDENTS, UNIVERSITY TEACHERS, RESEARCHERS and artists

The Government of the Slovak Republic approved the establishment of the National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic for the support of mobility of students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists in 2005. The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.

The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic supports mobility of international students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists for scholarship stays at higher education institutions and research organisations in Slovakia.
1. Eligible applicants

Eligible applicants for a scholarship in the framework of the NSP:

A) students who:

are university students at universities outside Slovakia;
are students of the second level of higher education (master's students), or are students who at the time of application deadline have already completed at least 2.5 years of their university studies in the same study programme;
will be on a study stay in Slovakia during their higher education outside Slovakia and who will be accepted by a public, private or state university in Slovakia for an academic mobility1 to study in Slovakia.

Student Life in Slovakia
Dormitories are offered by most higher education institutes in Slovakia, you will generally share a room with one or two other students or, if it is offered, have a room of your own. A bathroom is usually shared between two rooms or more. Some halls of residence have their own fitness centres, sporting facilities swimming pools etc.
slovakia_5If you are going to study in Slovakia as a free-mover student (NOT through exchange), however, you are not guaranteed a place in a dormitory. Be sure to contact the school in mind for more specific information and arrangements. Another way to find housing is by renting an apartment privately, it is recommended in this case to sign a lease with your Slovakian landlord defining precisely the terms and conditions of your stay in the apartment.
Slovak cuisine is heavily influenced by the one of the surrounding countries offering meat dishes with sides of some variety of potatoes, or soups. The national dish of Slovakia is Bryndzové halušky, potato dumplings similar to gnocci served with sheep´s-milk cheese and fried bacon. Large cities in Slovakia will offer food from a variety of cultures and wallets of any size. Lunch is the Slovak´s main meal of the day, lunch restaurants are called "jedálen".
Eating at a restaurant in Slovakia you are generally expected to tip the waiter. Unless the menu says that service is included, five to ten percent is the standard amount to tip in any restaurant with table service. The usual custom is for the waiter to tell you the total bill and for you, as you hand over the money, to say how much you are paying with the tip included. In restaurants and bars it is usual to round up the price, the tip is about 10%.

Schengen visa

Slovakia is part of the Schengen Area – territory of 23 countries of the European Union + 2 associated countries of the European Economic Area, which agreed on the abolition of border controls between themselves and on common visa regulations.

By applying for Slovak Visa, a foreigner applies for so-called Schengen Visa which allows him/her to travel inside of the Schengen Area without any restrictions. Schengen Visa holders do not need additional special visa for Slovakia.

Subjects & Courses

Most study abroad programs in Slovakia will enable you to either study at a full local university or else at an international satellite school which designs courses specifically for foreign students. This latter option, while not offering as extensive a potential course load as a full university, can be a great way to take introductory classes which survey a wide scope of Slovak history and culture.

Classes will be taught in English as well at international schools, whereas at local universities the language barrier can be an inhibitor to your enrollment if you do not speak Slovak. Still, if you are adept in or plan on learning the local language, then studying at a Slovak university can be an amazing immersive experience into local student life.

Some of the most popular subjects to study abroad in Slovakia include international relations, language studies, economics, and the liberal arts (although you can obviously expand your studies into many more academic fields than just these). Study abroad programs in Slovakia are generally offered over the summer term, during fall or spring semester, or for a full academic year. There are pros and cons to all these options, so begin a dialogue with your home university about which might be most plausible given your degree track.

Slovakia Study Visa and Residence Permit for Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani, Malaysian, Chinese, Korean and International Students
International students from Bangladesh and other Countries who wish to study in Slovakia may require a student visa. The student visa issued for study purpose in Slovakia is called as the National or Long Term Visa D. Slovakia is member of the Schengen area.
Long-term Visa D- Student Visa
Long term visa D is a student visa, residence or business visa. International students who wish to study in Slovakia must apply for this visa. This visa allows international students to stay in Slovakia for a period of 90 days in 6 months duration. If the duration of stay exceeds 90 days, apply for residence permit.
Slovak Student Visa Application Procedure
International students From Bangladesh and other countries must fill in the visa application form and submit it personally to their nearest Slovak embassy or consulate.
Documents required along with visa application are:
• A valid travel document- passport and passport-size photographs
• Acceptance letter from the institution
• Evidence of sufficient funds: Can be bank statements
• Onward or return ticket
• Proof of accommodation
• Medical insurance
• Visa fee payment
• Certificate of good conduct
National Visa Application Fee
The fee is 33€; if the national visa is issued for getting the granted residence permit, then the fee is 9.50€.
Application Procedure for Temporary Residence Permit
Temporary residence permit is issued in Slovakia for the following purposes: study, research employment or any special activity.
For Study Purpose-
Pupils from third countries staying in Slovakia for a period of more than 90 days must apply for temporary residence permit for the study purpose. Apply for the permit personally at your nearest Slovak embassy or consulate, or at the respective foreign police in the Slovak Republic. If your application is accepted, a written notice indicating the start and expiry date of the permit is given, along with the temporary residence permit.
Following documents must be submitted for temporary residence permit:
• Application form: The form can also be taken from the foreign police department in Slovakia. The form must be filled in Slovak language.
• A valid passport and 2 passport-size photographs
• Confirmation of studies/letter of acceptance or evidence or purpose of stay
• Proof of Slovak language
• Evidence of adequate financial means: Can be a bank account statement or scholarship letter.
• Certificate of a good conduct: Must be issued from your country of origin or countries you have stayed in for a period of more than 90 days
• Proof of accommodation in Slovakia
After successful submission of the application for temporary residence permit, the Slovak embassy will conduct interview. A written record of interview will be prepared and attached to the temporary residence permit application. Later, the embassy would send its decision on the granting of permit along with the record to the police department.
