Hmmm, at least I wasn't doing archaeology during my research on Rapa Nui (Easter Island), as this partly fits in with the whacky Erich Von Daniken and alien theories about the Moai (statues), sort of, if you believe this graphic shown here - see if we can get it into the next conference for a laugh! But yes, the statues do have a partial body underground, as is seen on the ones already on Ahu as well as on the linked video, but they don't have folded arms!

The launch of Riet Delsing's new book 'Articulating Rapa Nui: Polynesian Cultural Politics in a Latin American Nation-State' on 15 October 2015, at the library on Rapa Nui. I have just obtained my copy of this excellent work and it can be ordered from the University of Hawai'i Press.

El jueves 15 de octubre se realizó en la biblioteca del museo la presentación del libro “Articulando Rapa Nui. Políticas Culturales Polynesias en un Estado-Nación Latinoamericano”, de la antropóloga holandesa Riet Delsing.

El texto, escrito en inglés, consiste de un análisis antropológicio/político, basado en multiples visitas a la isla entre los años 1997 y 2010. Da cuenta de la relación histórica y contemporanea entre el estado chileno y el pueblo rapanui, y profundiza en las diferencias culturales como pueblo polinesio.

La introducción de la actividad estuvo a cargo de Cristián Moreno Pakarati y Francisco Torres.
