Clocking in at a relentless 125–135 BPM, Lekompo is far more than just high-speed percussion and heavy log drums. It is a powerful reflection of cultural identity, deeply rooted in Tsonga, Pedi, Venda, and Khelobedu influences.

Once again, as the proud headline partner of Africa Rising Music Conference (ARMC) 2026 at Constitution Hill, we sat down to moderate () 'The Lekompo Wave' panel alongside two of the movement’s definitive architects, , and . AI is not coming. It’s already here.

At ARMC 2026, Trenton from Bridges for Music shared a perspective that cut through a lot of the fear surrounding AI and creativity:

“We’re about to go through a major churn in the next 12 to 24 months. But out of that will rise one of the most incredible new era of creativity.”

The conversation focused on adaptation, not panic.

AI is changing music, media, and creative industries at a pace we’ve never seen before. But these tools are not replacing creativity. They are reshaping how creativity is expressed, developed, and amplified.

One of the strongest takeaways:
AI can generate.
AI can assist.
But AI alone does not make someone creative.

Real creativity still comes from human perspective, taste, emotion, culture, and experience.

The future belongs to creators who learn how to work with these tools, not against them.

It started in Berlin, was officially introduced at Ibiza 2026, and this past weekend continued at in Johannesburg.

The Berlin AI Think Tank was created as a platform for critical discussions around artificial intelligence, creator consent, licensing, attribution, and fair remuneration within the rapidly evolving music landscape.

What began as conversations between , .aixchange, , .idmt, and partners across music, technology, and rights management is now expanding internationally through collaborations with organisations and stakeholders across Africa and beyond.

At ARMC 2026, representatives from , , , AFEM, Fraunhofer IDMT, AIxchange, and other local and international stakeholders came together to discuss the next steps toward a more independent and sustainable Pan African AI ecosystem for music and the creative industries.

The focus is not only on protecting rights, but also on building practical frameworks that allow creators, artists, producers, and rightsholders to actively participate in the future of AI-driven music economies through consent-based licensing, fair attribution, and sustainable remuneration models.

As music and wider creative communities continue engaging with AI technologies, initiatives like the Berlin AI Think Tank aim to ensure innovation develops alongside creator rights, cultural value, and long term sustainability.
