Die Josty-Brauerei wurde von dem Schweizer Daniel Josty (1777–1845) gegründet, der mit seinem Bruder Johann Josty (1773–1826) nach Berlin gekommen war. Johann gründete das Café Josty, Daniel vertrieb 1831 ein Schokoladen-Getränk und gründete die Brauerei, damals in der Prenzlauer Straße. 1890 fiel das Brauereigebäude einem Straßenbau zum Opfer. Von der offenbar sehr großzügigen Entschädigung errichtete er in der Bergstraße den Neubau im neogotischen Stil.

The Josty Brewery was founded by the Swiss Daniel Josty (1777-1845), who came to Berlin with his brother Johann Josty (1773-1826). Johann founded Café Josty, Daniel distributed a chocolate drink in 1831 and founded the brewery, at that time in Prenzlauer Straße. In 1890 the brewery building fell victim to a road construction. From the apparently very generous compensation he built the new building in neo-Gothic style in Bergstraße.

Die Josty-Brauerei wurde in den Jahren 1890-1891, zur Stillung des Bierdurstes der Gäste im Café Josty am Potsdamer Platz errichtet. Das unter Denkmalschutz stehende Gebäudeensemble umfängt einen malerischen Innenhof, in dem im Sommer das Szene-Restaurant Katz Orange auftischt.

The Josty Brewery was built in the years 1890-1891 to satisfy the beer thirst of the guests in the Café Josty on Potsdamer Platz. The listed building ensemble surrounds a picturesque courtyard, where the restaurant Katz Orange serves up in the summer.

That’s where it all started, in 2009. In Berlin-Mitte. Brunnenstrasse. Formerly used as an art gallery, we didn’t change the interior that much. We left the concrete floor coating the way it was, only added the wall unit from the 50ies and some other furniture.

Die Josty-Brauerei wurde um 1831 von dem Schweizer Daniel Josty gegründet. Ab 1890 wurde das fünfstöckige Brauereigebäude im Hinterhof der Bergstraße durch die Architekten Hermann Enders und Hahn im Stil der romantisierenden Neorenaissance erbaut. Sie blieb nur kurz in Betrieb, im zweiten Weltkrieg wurde sie stark beschädigt. Zwischen 1994 und 1995 wurde die Brauerei durch die Architekten Barbara Elwardt und Klaus Lattermann umfassend saniert. Heute ist es ein idyllischer Hof mit dem Katz Orange sowie verschiedenen Büros und beherbergt unsere Ferienappartements.

The Josty-Brewery was founded around 1831 by the Swiss Daniel Josty. From 1890, the five-storied brewery building in the backyard of Bergstraße was built by the architects Hermann Enders and Hahn in the style of the romanticizing Neo-Renaissance. It was only briefly in operation, during World War II, it was severely damaged. Between 1994 and 1995, the brewery was extensively renovated by the architects Barbara Elwardt and Klaus Lattermann. Today it is an idyllic courtyard with the Katz Orange and various offices and houses our holiday apartments.

A small but fine selection including lavender shortbread, florentine, brownies with sea salt, topped tartes and fluffy buns with Scottish salmon and dill for excellent coffee. In the midst of galleries and exhibition spaces within walking distance of our apartments!
