For decades, the quaint Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen has attracted visitors from around the globe. military established several hotels in this relaxing Alpine village, making it a popular R&R destination for U.S. military service members. Beginning in 2004, 11-day tour packages designed with the retiree traveler in mind were offered by one of these hotels. In the years to follow, these

tour packages grew in popularity with guests from across the United States attending. Unfortunately, in 2015 as the tours were peaking in popularity, this cherished program was discontinued. Due to changes in the Status of Forces Agreement, retired military members were no longer eligible to stay at the military resort. My name is Jake Krengel and for several years I had the privilege of coordinating and hosting these wonderful vacation packages. As the program drew to a close, I listened to concerns regarding its future. I was moved to action and got to work developing a similar program – Bavaria & Beyond Tours. This new program was established with the goal of providing worry-free and culturally insightful tours, designed with the American retiree traveler in mind. We strive to develop personal and caring relationships with our guests, while ensuring a delightful vacation. The “Home-Away-From-Home” experience distinguishes our tours from other vacation packages offered in the region. While many tours have guests living out of a suitcase and sleeping in a different hotel each night, we make sure our guests settle in upon arrival, as they will be calling beautiful Garmisch-Partenkirchen home for the following 11 days. Garmisch-Partenkirchen’s central location just south of Munich and north of Innsbruck allows us to schedule day excursions to the many world-renowned travel destinations in the immediate area. We pride ourselves in offering educational and entertaining tours providing guests with insight into the regions fascinating culture. We realize that vacation is a special time where memories are made. We would be honored to host you on your European vacation while providing memories to last a lifetime!

What an unforgettable journey! 🇳🇴🇸🇪🇩🇰🇮🇸

From the breathtaking Norwegian fjords and authentic Viking villages to the vibrant capitals of Oslo, Stockholm, and Copenhagen, our Scandinavian Summer tour was packed with incredible experiences. Celebrating Midsommar in Sweden during the longest days of the year made the adventure even more special. A short stop in Iceland at the end of concluded our journey with the awe-inspiring waterfalls, glaciers, volcanoes, and black sand beaches of Iceland.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this tour so memorable. We're already looking forward to the next adventure when we head to Spain & Portugal this September!

A belated Happy Easter from all of both of us at Bavaria & Beyond! 🌷

One Easter tradition we especially love in Bavaria is the Fleischweihe, or Easter food blessing. In this Catholic tradition, families bring baskets of Easter foods, such as homemade breads and eggs, to church on Holy Saturday to be blessed before sharing them together on Easter. Sometimes there is even an Osterfeuer, or bonfire, during the service on the evening before Easter.

From Spain’s dramatic northern coast to the western shores of Portugal, and onward to the sparkling Mediterranean, this promises to be a journey full of color, culture, and unforgettable moments.
Our overnight stays include Madrid, Santander, A Coruña, Porto, Cascais near Lisbon, Seville, Granada, Valencia, and Barcelona, with wonderful day trips and inspiring sights along the way.

We’re so pleased this tour is coming together and look forward to welcoming everyone for a warm, relaxed, and memorable small-group adventure.

It was a blast back in 2024 and we can't wait to return while discovering new destinations this September!
