Abstract:
"I investigate the peculiar situation in which I find myself healthy and strong, with a darling family, stimulating job, top-notch dental plan, and living far from active war and wildfire zones -- yet perpetually ill at ease and prone to sudden-onset exasperation when absolutely nothing has happened. My triggers include dinner parties, chairs, therapists, and shopping at Costco. In analysing this phenomenon, I consider epigenetics, the neuroscience of neuroticism, and possible environmental factors such as NSF grant budgets. Yet no obvious solution emerges. Fortunately, my affliction isn't really all that serious. In fact, it's good writing material. So while I'm open to better ideas, I figure I'll just continue being like this."

Eve stayed here for 2 weeks, me one night. It's really nice. She's packing, that's the reason for the mess.

We now have a new Rad Power Bike the Rad Expand 5. Got this one because it folds so I can take it on the train daring peak hours. This is part of our trip to work. We ride the bike to the train station, take the train to Springdale then ride to work. Gretel climbs right in the backpack as soon as I lay it on the floor. She loves the bike ride.

In January I had a recurrence of my sciatica. It was a miserable time, the pain and lack of mobility can be really disheartening, especially now when we are still looking for normalcy to come back into our lives. After about 3 weeks of suffering I was able to get treatment and the entered physical therapy. The walks Gretel and I took in the mornings were very short compared to our normal 4 1/2 miles....

Since the New York declared a State of Emergency because of the pandemic we have not been out hiking. With parks and trails closed and parking limit restrictions you just never knew if you were going to be able to hike once you got there. Now though, in New York, most parks and trails are open and I thought maybe on a Tuesday I wouldn't find that many people out and about. [ 100 more words ]
