✈️ Flying home today from our St. Mary's College pilgrimage to Rome! 🇮🇹 ❤️ We had an incredible time, walking the streets of the Eternal City, learning about Church history and the saints, and even practicing our Latin! 🤓 Not to mention sampling amazing Italian food and savoring our daily (and sometimes twice daily) dose of gelato! 😋

🙏🏻 So grateful for all the blessings we have received: for our wonderful chaplains Fr. Rutledge and Fr. Wood, for daily Tridentine Mass, and for the opportunity to witness the grandeur and holiness of the Catholic Church - all in the company of fellow SMC friends! We can't think of a better package deal! ❤️😄

Thank you to everyone for your prayers and best wishes! May we always be faithful to all the graces we received! Deo gratias! 🙏🏻✨️

✨️ Yesterday we took an excursion to Subiaco, to pay homage to St. Benedict and his sister St. Scholastica. We visited their monasteries, including the ancient library. The views are so stunning, we can imagine why St. Bendict picked this spot to flee from the world! 😊🙏🏻

🙏🏻✨️ Not many people know that the Church of St. Chrysogonus in Rome enshrines a great treasure. In a quiet side chapel, next to the main altar, we prayed before the incorrupt body of the visionary, Blessed Anna Maria Taigi (1769-1837).

Blessed Anna Maria Taigi had the tremendous and extraordinary grace of receiving revelations from Our Lord and His Blessed Mother, from the time she was 21 until her death. In her visions, she foresaw much of the political turmoil that took place during her life; most significantly, the French Revolution and the subsequent weakening of the Church’s temporal authority. She also read the state of souls, both living and dead.

Despite these miraculous gifts, she was content to fulfill her station in life as the wife of 48 years to a poor serving-man and the mother of seven children. Although she loved the poor, sick and miserable, she never neglected her own family. Of her children, two died young, and the others grew in piety under the surveillance of their mother. She joined the Third Order of Trinitarians and made rapid progress in the way of perfection.

During her life, she suffered much both corporally and spiritually and was at times meanly calumniated. But after death, her name soon became venerated in Rome. Her body was transferred several times, and finally rests in the Church of St. Chrysogonus in Trastevere, Rome. The process of her beatification was begun in 1863 and Anna Maria Taigi was beatified on May 30, 1920 by Pope Benedict XV, at which time he declared her protector of families and mothers.

In 1868, 31 years after her death, her coffin was opened and though her clothes had deteriorated, her body was found to be incorrupt. When examined again in 1920, she had begun to decompose and so her visible hands and face were covered with wax replicas.

✨️🙏🏻 Blessed Anna Maria Taigi, protector of families and mothers, pray for us! 🙏🏻❤️

❤️ Yesterday we spent the day in medieval Assisi, the hometown of Saint Francis. It's like going back in time! The town looks the same as it would have 800 years ago!

This year marks the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis and it was such a privilege and blessing to pray before his tomb, and that of Saint Claire. ❤️🙏🏻

✨️ No matter how many times we visit, the walled city of Toledo in Spain is always pectacular as it sits on a granite hill surrounded by a loop of the Tagus River. ✨️🤩 Its massive Cathedral is one of the greatest cathedrals of Europe and the seat of the Primate of all Spain.

We also visited the Iglesia de Santo Tomé, a church with a beautiful Mudejar tower that houses El Greco’s masterpiece, The Burial of the Count of Orgaz.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a free afternoon in this incredible city! 😎❤️

Had to share this clip from this weekend's concert by the Knights of the Immaculata of St. Mary's Academy. 🤩 I have to admit, my hands got sweaty from watching 😅 but they did an amazing job! Great performance, boys! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
