A card for the weekend from the oracle deck NORSE MAGIC by Jennie Appel, Dirk Grosser and Kai Uwe Faust: SACRED GROVE.
“We humans were once at home in the woods; they are a kind of primordial home for us, and there is an inseparable bond between the trees and humans and everything in between. The ancient groves of trees were sacred places, living “forest churches”.
Different creatures can thrive together here; nests offer shelter up to great heights, caves, and burrows find space in the depths, young shoots grow up sheltered by crowns of the older ones, and even tiny animals find refuge. Each tree is like a whole cosmos, and at the same time, they all stand here together like one unit, nourishing and caring for each other when one is getting weak, taking care of young and old, not discriminating because each one in its place is important to the greater whole. The forests have seen, heard, and witnessed many things, carry ancient knowledge, and share wisdom with us that can heal the wounds of broken traditions. The Sacred Groves are still there, continuing to weave their root system in the earth, holding everything for us until we are ready. It is the living tradition of our ancestors that they pass on to us alive, root by root, herb by herb, staff by staff.
These plant allies, once witnesses, generously pass on and preserve the species. In this way, each walk into the forest can be a constant reminder of what never died. The Sacred Grove calls you to do just that today: Come to the forest! Let yourself be embraced by the power of the green and arrive fully with yourself. Maybe you have been a “lonely tree” for too long, and the Sacred Grove reminds you to connect with like-minded people …”
