Our passion is traveling in Europe My husband and I are from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (near Toronto) and we love to travel to Europe. Where do you stay?

It was our dream to retire in Europe and we made it happen in 2018! We live in beautiful Landshut, Bavaria, Germany and love our new home. Finally made it to Malta last month. At just 27 kms long and 14 kms wide, we were able to explore much of the island during our week-long stay. From the grandeur of Valletta, to the quiet beauty of Gozo, Malta did not disappoint!

At just over 60 square kilometers, San Marino is one of the world's smallest countries and is completely land-locked in northern Italy. Boasting a beautiful medieval old town, and stunning vistas in all directions, it's hard to believe that San Marino is one of the least visited countries in the world! We would definitely go back!

In June last year, we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on the stunning, iconic island of Santorini. First visit for my husband, probably the 5th time I'd been there. Every bit as beautiful as I remember, but absolutely jammed with tourists. We opted to stay in the smaller town of Imerovigli which was a good choice for us (less crowded). Definitely worth the trip, but I don't think we'd go back. So many other gorgeous Greek islands to visit!

We've been lucky to have so many amazing experiences in Europe, but here are the TOP 5 cool things we've done in Europe.
1. Balloon ride at dawn in Dordogne, France
2. Andrea Bocelli concert at the Herodes Atticus Theatre, Athens
3. Celebrate my husband's 50th birthday at Oktoberfest, Munich, Germany
4. Breakfast at Café 3440, (Highest café in Europe), Pitztal Glacier, Austria
5. Castle Tour in Ireland

Last week we spent a few days in the lovely city of Würzburg. About 120km southeast of Frankfurt in the state of Bavaria, it was well worth a visit. We were amazed at the gorgeous rococo and baroque buildings and the stunning Residenz palace. Würzburg is smack dab in the middle of wine country (you can see the vineyards all around the city) and so its no surprise that there are many wine bars and cellars. And yes, we did enjoy a few of them 😃 We've already decided we have to go back when the weather is warmer and everything is green!

Croatia is a stunning country, but my favorite place is the gorgeous walled city of Dubrovnik. Sometimes called the "Pearl of the Adriatic", the historic Old Town is a beautiful combination of elegant restaurants and cafes and stunning Baroque architecture. Best way to see the Old Town is to walk along the fortified walls and if you go at sunset you'll be rewarded with spectacular views in every direction!

We spent a few days visiting the gorgeous city of Dresden in October. Almost completely destroyed at the end of the Second World War, it has been lovingly restored to its former glory. If you are ever in the Saxony region of Germany, this city should be on your "must see" list!

We are so lucky that we live within 2 hours of the Alps. This week we went to Spitzingsee, a beautiful small lake covered in snow. With a path winding all the way around the lake it was a beautiful day to walk around and enjoy the spectacular scenery.

Happy New Year! As we are facing yet more uncertainty, anxiety and restrictions with yet another wave of Covid infections in 2022, I'm thinking back to the wonderful time we spent in Greece last summer. Hopefully Covid will be behind us soon and we can travel again 🙂
