*Yzerfontein* or let your soul hang loose in double happiness.
Leaving Cape Town, follow the R27 north towards Velddrif, with Table Mountain fading into the distance behind you and the Atlantic stretching along your left. Just opposite the turn-off to Darling, take the R315 west towards the charming coastal town of Yzerfontein.
Known by locals and regular visitors as “The Pearl of the West Coast,” this tranquil seaside village is just 85 km from Cape Town and sits directly on the Atlantic Oean.
With its unhurried pace, beautiful coastline and not a single traffic light, Yzerfontein is the perfect escape for anyone looking to slow down, breathe deeply and enjoy a little peace and quiet.
The surroundings are still unspoilt here, and people live in harmony with nature. Whales also know this, coming here every year during the breeding season in large numbers. Southern right whales and humpback whales can be seen here, and Yzerfontein has become a nursery for whale mothers and their babies. Ostrich families roam freely in and around town.
Nature and flowers
Spectacular wildflowers of the West Coast is a must see! In spring, the landscape becomes covered with colourful flowers extending almost to the horizon, creating an extraordinary natural experience.
The sea, untouched 16 mile coastline and abundance of wildlife are presented as the main attractions of Yzerfontein — a quiet place where visitors can relax, enjoy nature and escape the bustle of everyday life.
The history of the town goes back more than 30 years, when a large farm was still here and was first used as a holiday resort for residents of Cape Town and the surrounding area. A piece of paradise that has still remained largely untouched.
Some Europeans have already settled here. Recent data shows that the median selling price in Yzerfontein climbed above R2 million for the first time in 2021 and now exceeds R3 million, which reflects the growing demand for homes in the area.
