Kloster Vessra is an incredible open air museum assembled around a former monastery in Franconian Thuringia. It's worth a visit any time but for the intrepid beer traveler, their Museumsfest held in May is the only day to sample their lovely Klosterbräu beer. The end of May is waiting on the dock. Time for the Maischerei Mayr and Müller Maibock. This traditional rich Bock was lagered for 12 weeks for extra smoothness.

The inaugural Bayerisch-Tschechisches Bierfestival took place this weekend in Rehau. Featuring 30 breweries from Bavaria and Czechia, a whopping 14 from Franconia. Most of them not previously visited by, but on Beerwanderers radar so a must. Local Kommbräu Rehau had a strong showing with a lovely hoppy Maibock but there were many great surprises. The weather was perfect and Metzgerbräu brought their smoky ham. As a personal bonus I finally got to meet Der Bierschoff after messaging for a few years. I hope it becomes an annual event.
