Explorer on a budget

Explorer on a budget Sustainable and conscious travels with regard to the student budget, combined with inspiring photogr I like to take the path less travelled.

I somehow managed to visit over 30 countries since 2012, so yes, I love travelling and this website gives me the opportunity to share my stories with you. While on the road, I prefer to hitchhike, couchsurf and learn about different cultures - I take the last point one step further and try to find out what we (Westerners) can learn from other cultures. Moreover I am a big fan of all outdoor activi

ties: hiking, cycling, or swimming in cold lakes while nobody else does. One, because I love the calmness and to get one with the nature. Two, because it is also a way to have less expenses. This brings me to my next point. The website is called „Explorer on a budget“ because I believe that everyone can afford to travel. And because I am stingy, I don’t like to spend my money on guided tours or luxury articles. The rule of thumb: Time is money. And if you want to spend less money, you are gonna need more time (to research etc.) When you meet me in real life, you will notice that I live a simple but happy life. In general I do not hold judgements against anyone and I am open to new ideas and concepts. I am very fascinated by the Zero Waste lifestyle and thus currently training to become a minimalist. I like raw, vegan food, yet I eat meat now and then. Currently I am still studying. I am an Environmental Engineer with a specialization in geoinformatics - which probably explains why I support green ideas (not to forget my mum’s upbringing). What gave me the idea to start a website is my love for photography. I am a big fan of landscapes, symmetries & close-ups. My motto is: The way is the aim. Don't wait until your destination until you start enjoying, everything along the way is part of the journey. I, for instance, love to go to places the local way (which is the cheaper alternative but also more adventurous). I feel a sense of challenge in places that did not develop a tourism infrastructure yet and where you never know in the morning what the day will bring. This is where my personal adventure time starts and where I feel at ease. It’s my pleasure to have you hear and now I hope you enjoy my site and we will see you hear again :)

I‘m not lying: This has been one of the - if not THE - most beautiful place I‘ve visited around Stuttgart so far. I imagined the blue water to be one of these edited effects on pictures. But no - the water in Blautopf is actually this turquoise green 💚💙

🥈The Blautopf is the second largest spring in Germany.

🍲 ‚Blautopf‘ means ‚blue pot‘ in English.

🌪 The spring has a funnel-like shape with a depth of 21 meters (69 feet).

🕳 At the depth of said 21 meters begins the Blauhöhle, the largest cave system in the Swabian Alps. As of Nov 2018, 14.6 km of length have been surveyed.

⛰The Blauhöhle eventually comes above the level of ground water and opens into several big air-filled chambers, like the ‚Mörike Cathedral‘ and the ‚Castle of Clouds‘.

🏊‍♂️ The explorations are ongoing. Only experienced cave divers are currently allowed to enter the caves.

📝 The municipal council of Blaubeuren commissioned a feasibility study to open the caves to the public.
Stay tuned ;)

I am very happy about the guest post of our family friend Charlotte. She followed my recommendation and traveled through the remote province of Hà Giang in Vietnam on a scooter for four days. She wrote about her experiences here:

https://www.exploreronabudget.com/destinations/asia/seasia/vietnam/guest-post-ha-giang-loop

"You need a lot of mud protection, a desire to move on tiny, undulating roads by scooter (which can sometimes lead to quite imaginative falls) and above all, an approximate understanding of how beautiful the region is (even if all expectations are completely exceeded!)."
