ABC News article today on the cruise behemoths escaping taxes and regulations while taking advantage of very low paid international staff.
That’s why cruises are cheap - and they suck hundreds of thousands of Aussies annually from taking holidays travelling in Terra Australia.
The mostly Florida-based cruise lines are really bad news for Australia’s regional tourism.

Fabulous February!
Dive into Cologne’s crazy Carnivale (4-10 Feb) then head south (in stages) for the Alps and snow sports.
In between, enjoy a stay on the Mosel for a week or two of wine tastings and brisk hikes!?
For MEB guests we can arrange the 63 Euro for unlimited travel around Germany for the month (except IC and ICE trains).
A check of flights on SkyScanner showed one-stop from ~1250 AUD return (Air China, 1 Feb rtn 7 Mar, MEL-FFT). Wait for a sale and you could get flights for around 1K.

March might sound chilly but it’s blossom season in Rhineland.
Peach trees burst out along the Mosel while not far away, it is Almond trees along the German Wine Route, an 85km tourist trail established in 1935, complemented by the 100km Palatinate Almond Trail along back roads and lanes (hike or bike).

While spring is still fighting the gray of winter elsewhere, it is already in full bloom in the Palatinate with the first warming rays of sunshine.
