This time at Utweiler near Saarbrucken & then down to Colmar.

Just completed a fantastic tour in the Hürtgenwald with these lovely people, related to a veteran (Captain) from the 3rd battalion, 47th infantry, 9th Infantry Division, who was severely injured here, on the 7th of Feb, 1945, after stepping on a mine, retrieving 4 bodies from the woods.

Together we found where it happened, plus many 9th Infantry U.S foxholes, 2 slit trenches, C.P and radio operator dugout.

Personally for me - the best ever U.S foxholes (untouched) I ever found- were outside Rocherah/Krinkelt and so historical.
Was a 10 km hike last October.

Not destroyed by re-enactors!

One was clearly a radio operators logged- over dug-out.

Found lots of radio batteries and spent rounds, and about 12 foxholes.
(2nd Infantry-Indian head division).

Another great tour today, with this lovely couple from Philadelphia.

Operation Nordwind - in the Herrlisheim and Gambsheim area- Alsace (near Strasbourg).
12th Armored Division versus 10 SS Panzer Division - January 1945.

So glad their veteran survived and was not killed or wounded, like so many others….

I have just completed a fantastic 2 day tour in Bavaria, on the Obersalzberg and in the Berchtesgaden area.

Very hard hiking terrain and changeable weather, but very enjoyable…..
