When a roof needs repairing in the open air museum , craftsmen build the scaffolding entirely from wood instead of metal ๐Ÿชœ

Throughout May, visitors can experience traditional crafts up close during Den Gamle Byโ€™s Craftsmanship Days โ€” from coopers shaping barrels to blacksmiths working glowing iron and painters using historical techniques โš’๏ธ

But these crafts are not only brought out for special events.
All year round, Den Gamle By works to keep historical craftsmanship alive โ€” not just as museum displays, but as living skills passed on from one generation to the next โš–๏ธ

Den Gamle By even has its own Centre for Craftsmanship, where specialists restore old windows by hand instead of replacing them, carpenters work with traditional joinery techniques, sign painters recreate lettering styles from another era, and apprentices learn crafts that are slowly disappearing elsewhere ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ

Even the materials matter:
Old wood is reused whenever possible, lime paint is mixed using historical recipes, and repairs are often made using the same techniques as when the buildings were first constructed.
Den Gamle By doesnโ€™t only preserve the buildings you can see โ€” but also the craftsmanship, knowledge and stories hidden within them ๐Ÿงฑ

Football history in Aarhus โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ†

are football champions of Denmark for the first time in 40 years โ€” and Aarhus has been turned completely upside down โ˜„๏ธ

After a historic title race, watched by the Danish King himself, the celebrations have taken over the city for an entire week โ€” with closed main roads, concerts with Danish artists and free entrance to for everyone wearing an AGF shirt โ€” ending with thousands gathered outside City Hall as the players lifted the trophy above the crowd ๐Ÿ†

The city has waited 40 years for this moment, and the Jutland underdog knows how to celebrate: The streets of Aarhus have been covered in white and blue. Grown men crying tears of joy. Songs until the bright Danish dawn. Strangers hugging strangers ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

And the football future feels bright. Champions League awaits, while a brand-new stadium will soon rise in the green surroundings of ๐ŸŸ๏ธ

Manda Eatery: A Hidden Gem on Jรฆgergรฅrdsgade, Aarhus ๐Ÿฉต

Small charming cafรฉs are popping up all over Aarhusโ€™ cozy streets. One you definitely shouldnโ€™t miss is .eatery on Jรฆgergรฅrdsgade, founded by Amanda, who grew up in Aarhus herself and has a special love for the Frederiksbjerg neighborhood. Surrounded by endless sourdough buns with cheese, she missed more exciting breakfast options โ€” so she decided to create them herself from scratch. Family and friends helped build the little place, which now features a cozy coffee bar, a quaint little back room, a lovely courtyard, and a few seats outside ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿซ–๐Ÿช

The menu changes regularly and includes dishes like yogurt bowls topped with flavorful, beautifully prepared ingredients, Turkish eggs with chili and dill โ€” a savoury breakfast favorite โ€” delicious cakes, salty snacks, great beers, wine, and coffee ๐Ÿฅฃ๐Ÿท๐Ÿถ

Aoife Coffee - Your dogโ€™s new favourite cafรฉ ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ

At .coffee in Aarhus, Denmark, your four-legged friend is just as much a guest as you are. Dogs are always welcome here โ€” no one has to wait outside. Water bowls, dog gear and treats are just as much a part of the menu as flat whites, espressos and cappuccinos ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿซ˜

Maybe the name rings a bell? Thatโ€™s because the story began with the first coffee bar on the fishing harbour in Ebeltoft, Djursland. The couple behind both locations are passionate coffee nerds, committed to a high standard in every cup ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

Today, it has grown into both a micro-roastery and a second location in Aarhus โ€” all built on carefully sourced beans, direct trade, and a deep respect for craftsmanship. They actively support small-scale farmers through long-term partnerships and fair pricing, ensuring sustainability from farm to cup ๐ŸคŽ

Inspired by their time in Ireland, the space feels personal and full of character โ€” with handcrafted ceramics and thoughtful details completing the experience โ˜•๏ธ

A Matcha Map of Aarhus, Denmark ๐Ÿต

Matcha has traveled from distant lands and has taken root in Aarhusโ€™ narrow, cobblestone streets. The cityโ€™s cafรฉs and coffee bars have long embraced the vibrant green drink, and even dedicated matcha bars have appeared. Whether youโ€™re a seasoned matcha drinker or a curious beginner, youโ€™ll find everything from a warming latte to a refreshing iced version โ€“ or perhaps a tempting twist with berry syrup and creamy foam at one of the cityโ€™s cozy corners ๐Ÿ’š

Here are a handful of matcha gems:

๐Ÿ“Bork Kaffe, Jรฆgergรฅrdsgade: A small treasure on Jรฆgergรฅrdsgade, nestled between ceramicists and great eateries. Here you can also grab a small bite of breakfast.

๐Ÿ“Monk, Aarhus ร˜: The architectural district of Aarhus offers their take on good matcha, tasty pastries, and warm service. Here, they nerd out on both matcha and coffee in minimalist interiors.

๐Ÿ“Nabokiosk, Ingerslev: A local gem with informal settings and friendly vibes. This is one of the last refueling stations before a long walk by the water or through Marselisborg Forest โ€“ stop by if you want your matcha to-go.

๐Ÿ“Hakkล, Godsbanen & Mejlgade:
The original matcha bar at Godsbanen now has a sibling โ€“ Hakkล Dล. The new spot is bigger, bolder and built for lunch, serving loaded sourdough bagels inspired by Japanese buns, alongside iced matcha in playful flavours like Brown Cookie Butter or Mango Sticky Rice. The original spot holds it down with aesthetic vibes and creative matcha variations โ€“ so youโ€™ve got two reasons to go.

๐Ÿ“Studs, Latinerkvarteret: A matcha hotspot on Studsgade where the drink is anything but quiet. Think strawberry matcha with whipped cloud, pistachio cream blends and seasonal twists. A group of local friends run the place, and their vibe spills onto the street with music, blue benches and grilled cheese on the side.

๐Ÿ“Carter, Mรธllegade 5: A sleek and stylish cafรฉ that also houses a design store upstairs. Itโ€™s one of the best sunshine spots for enjoying an iced matcha. And if you stay into the afternoon, you can swap your cup for a glass of natural wine and a side of olives.
