🌸 Tivoli Friheden – a blooming fairytale in Aarhus 🌸
Tucked away just a short walk from Aarhus city centre, we a tumbled upon one of Denmark’s most charming hidden gems: Tivoli Friheden – a theme park that feels like a time capsule wrapped in flowers and summer magic 🎠🌿

Would you believe this place started back in 1903 as a simple café in the woods, serving coffee and cake to weekend strollers? By 1904, there was a full restaurant, live music under the trees, and slowly, the place grew into something special. In 1958, it officially became an amusement park – and today it’s where nostalgia meets thrill rides, concerts, gardens… and right now, flowers. So many flowers.

Now it is time to catch the Blomsterfestival (Flower Festival) – a yearly celebration that turns the entire park into a sea of color. Think:
🌺 Over 50,000 flowers
🌸 Giant floral sculptures and art installations
🌿 Sensory gardens full of herbs and fragrances
🎨 Creative workshops, family-friendly activities, and even flower bingo
🎶 And of course, live music echoing through the trees

Everywhere you turn, it smells like summer. It feels like summer. And with rollercoasters in the background and a soft breeze through the roses – it’s the kind of place that slows you down and makes you smile.

🗓 The festival runs until August 11 – and honestly, if you're anywhere near Aarhus, you need to go.

👉 Add it to your summer list. You won’t regret it 😎

🎓 Aarhus University – yellow bricks, sheep stories & Nobel vibes 🇩🇰

100 years ago: 78 students in a rented room.
Today: 40,000+ students, lakeside campus, and a building style so aesthetic it could have its own Instagram.

💛 AU is not just lectures and deadlines. It's a park full of oak trees, an amphitheatre in the grass, and once upon a time... sheep mowing the lawn (yes, really). 🐑

✨ Lately AU has been voted the Best Erasmus Destination. The university is still expanding – basically turning downtown Aarhus into one big campus (with hygge, of course).

If you have been studying here you know it IS one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. If you come to Aarhus as a tourist, make sure you’ll come for a scenic walk through academia’s coziest park.

If you are looking for alternative ways of looking at Aarhus, try bay cruises or water sports! Yesterday we jumped into a boat and admired the City of Smiles from the sea ☀️⛈️⛴️

A trip to Odense maybe? We have just been to one of the most charming places in Denmark ❤️🇩🇰❤️

📍 H.C. Andersen’s House in Odense – a museum that speaks in the voice of fairy tales.

In the heart of Odense, just a 10-minute walk from the train station, following Hans Christian Andersen’s actual footprints (he was 185 cm tall and wore size 47 shoes!), you’ll find a place where imagination and reality blur: the new H.C. Andersen Museum – a space so magical it will haunt your dreams, in the best way possible.

The museum is a total concept – an entire city block has been reimagined, including the iconic yellow house where the author was born. Designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, the wooden complex seems to disappear underground, inviting us into a sensory world of stories, music, light, and shadow. Surrounded by a blooming garden, the space itself feels like a living illustration.

Here, Andersen’s story is told not just with objects, but through experience. The museum invites us on a journey – from his modest childhood in Odense, through his struggles in Copenhagen, to his life as a celebrated author traveling the world. It’s a deeply personal retelling of his own “Ugly Duckling” story, and the museum is crafted to spark curiosity in kids while stirring nostalgia in adults.

But it’s not just about fairy tales. You discover Andersen’s passion for paper cuttings, a form of visual storytelling he treated as art. It’s said he invented the classic woven Danish Christmas heart. You also explore his emotional life, filled with longing and unfulfilled fascinations. Andersen was an avid traveler – spending nearly half his life on the road, visiting dozens of countries. One room even reveals the 30 journeys he took, what he packed (a rope in case he had to escape a burning hotel!) and stories like the one from Charles Dickens’ daughter, who wasn’t thrilled about Andersen staying with them for five weeks.

🎠 For kids: the Ville Vau creative space.
☕ For adults: a café nestled in the garden, scenic terraces, and a magical bookstore.

🕒 We spent 3 hours there and it flew by – we could have easily stayed longer. Don't miss the free audio guide, which brings his world to life with stories and anecdotes. Whether you’re a lifelong Andersen fan or just curious, it’s a beautifully designed museum for all ages.

💡 And don’t forget – the city of Odense itself is utterly charming. The museum is just one of its treasures.

🎨 Experience the Women's Modern Breakthrough at Randers Kunstmuseum 🎨

Today we have an idea for a trip to Randers, a beautiful town north of Aarhus.
Only for the next 10 days at Randers Kunstmuseum you have a chance to discover the powerful exhibition "Kvindernes moderne gennembrud – Dansk kunst 1880–1910" This groundbreaking showcase features works by 25 pioneering Danish female artists who challenged societal norms and left an indelible mark on the art scene during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

🖼️ Highlights include:

Intimate interiors by Anna Ancher
Mythological compositions by Agnes Slott-Møller
Portraits by Bertha Wegmann
Realistic depictions of human relationships by Emilie Mundt and Marie Luplau
These artists not only contributed significantly to Danish art but also advocated for broader societal changes, including women's rights and access to education.

📍 Visit Randers Kunstmuseum at Stemannsgade 2, 8900 Randers. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM, with extended hours until 8 PM on the last Wednesday of each month.

Don't miss this opportunity to explore the rich legacy of Denmark's female artists. We are amazed by their paintings and their courage to fight for themselves. For more information, visit: randerskunstmuseum.dk/kvindernes-moderne-gennembrud

✨ Institut for (X) – A Creative Oasis in Aarhus with a Story to Tell ✨

If you’ve ever longed for the vibe of old-school Christiania, you must visit Institut for (X) in Aarhus! 🌿🎨 This unique space is a melting pot of art, architecture, music, and a thriving community.

🏗 The History of This Place
Institut for (X) is located on the grounds of the former Godsbanen freight railway terminal, which played a crucial role in Aarhus’ transport system for decades. When its railway function became obsolete, the area was left abandoned—until artists, craftsmen, and creative minds took over and gave it new life.

Today, Institut for (X) is a living community built in a DIY spirit, constantly evolving as people transform old railway barracks and shipping containers into workshops, galleries, skate parks, and studios.

🏡 What You’ll Find Here:
🛠️ Artisan workshops and creative studios
🎶 Concerts and cultural events
☕ Alternative cafés and food trucks
🛹 A skate park and open-air social spaces
🏗️ Industrial buildings repurposed into creative hubs

This is a place where nothing is too unconventional, and artistic freedom takes center stage. If you want to experience the underground soul of Aarhus, this is the spot!

📍 Location: Right next to Godsbanen, in the heart of the city
📸 Tip: The best time to visit? During cultural events or on a summer evening when the place comes alive!

If you have biked/walked along ARoS recently, you have noticed the upper entrance is closed again. The final stages of the huge project THE NEXT LEVEL have just started with building a new park there. While we are waiting for the premiere of THE DOME, a Skyspace by James Turrell do not overlook the great exhibition NO COMMENT by Barbara Kruger. The exhibition shows her works from the last 40 years, but they all look/sound very contemporary. The exhibition is on until 21 April. Absolute must-see!

With a little bit of sunshine explore Sydhavnen and Kulbroen which are close to the railway station. A new office quarter is popping up there, but apart from the business life the place will attract the local and international tourists. The old coal bridge is going to be transformed into a modern walkway with panorama platforms and views of the neighborhood. You can already explore it and see the development of the seaside quarter 😎 Read more in the links in the comments.
