🌊 Beaches in Catalonia – beyond the obvious

Catalonia has an incredible variety of beaches.
From long, wide sandy beaches to small hidden “calas” tucked between cliffs – often known only to locals (or recommended by a homeowner :-))

And the best part?
Most holiday homes are within 90 minutes’ drive of the coast 🚗🌊

Some beaches are, of course, popular and busy – but this is where staying in a local Catalan holiday home really pays off 👇

Many know small, more private beaches and coves with far fewer people than the well-known spots along Costa Brava and Costa Daurada.

We often recommend dedicating a full holiday day to the beach – drive a bit further, bring lunch, and find a place where the pace is slower and the experience richer 🌿

☀️ Weather in Catalonia – why so many guests return

There are many reasons why Catalonia is a favourite.
The flight is easy, the food is fantastic, the atmosphere relaxed…
and then there’s the weather ☀️

Catalonia enjoys around 300 days of sunshine a year, making the region attractive well beyond July and August. In fact, spring and autumn are fantastic alternatives to the high summer season 🌿

🌸 Almond trees begin to blossom as early as February
🌡️ Spring and autumn typically offer 20–25°C – arrive early for summer or extend it
🏖️ In summer, Barcelona can feel humid and warm, so there’s nothing better than returning to your holiday home after a day trip – with a pool, cooling stone walls and beautiful views
⛰️ It’s almost unbelievable that in Catalonia you can experience mountains and beaches, vineyards and cows, vibrant cities and small authentic towns – all in the same holiday

We often say that Catalonia lies on the sunny side of the Pyrenees.
There is significantly less rainfall than on the French side – and the warmth in northern Spain is mild and pleasant rather than overwhelming. For us, it’s a true climatic sweet spot 🤍
